The price of a home or land in those towns like S'ban or Ipoh may be much cheaper than KL, ONLY that. I'm presuming rest of consumer groceries and food including dining out isn't much savings. maybe like 50sen to 1 Shringgit cheaper. Established chain restaurants or fast food prices are all the same anywhere in the country. How much one can save by moving there on COL expenses is hard to calculate or in other words, Do you really think moving there will offer better savings and disposable income in reality?..I'm with some doubts because people's spending habit change for any reason and that reflect remainder of disposable income. Moving to another town is like starting all over again. It can't be described in one paragraph.

If you sell your house in USJ - all you need to do is spend about RM500,000 for a nice corner lot double storey house with land and you can enjoy cheaper marketing and no traffic jams and no need to come to usj.com.my everyday and complain... not only you stress-free - we all also stress free....

The quality of living can be maintained and with more disposable income....

That is true and it is my contingency plan if I don't have enough when I retire. Of course, if money is no problem, can stay back in KL or anywhere we like.

Seremban2 is quite a nice place. It is away from the traffic jam, hussle and bustle of the old Seremban. It is newer and Mydin and Aeon are there. There is also a lake garden with a lot of koi in the lake. And driving to USJ, PJ or KL using the highway is convenient.

Several years ago the price of a semi-D in a new development there was selling for RM400+. I do not know how much it has appreciated since then.

Teluk Intan / Ipoh / Taiping are good options where double-storey semi-Ds are still going for MYR400-450K.... husband and wife can ride scooter to market and breakfast.... stop by for white coffee too.... Veggies from Camerons cheap cheap and once a while can go to KL or Penang... and even to Padang Besar buy Zebra Brand kitchenware....haha

Oh parking 40 sen per hour.... and petrol one tank can use 2 weeks.... because no traffic jams and no stress too....

Weekend go fish for toman as big as your calf.... and can look for old grandfather clocks or old turntables to restore as they fetch good prices in antique shops in Penang.... Taichi fees only MYR12 a month.... training 3 times a week....

Once a while have a fresh fish head curry in Ipoh Banana Leaf shop with the wife.... MYR24 only for medium size.... fresh and cheap

We are talking about about uprooting oneself and family to settle in another state and living behind a lifestyle one is so used to, friends and relatives. From a vibrant urban township to a sleepy hollow.

It takes a lot of courage and determination to do that and plenty of adjustments afterwards. It is not like moving from Cheras to PJ or from PJ to Shah Alam to USJ which I have done. After careful consideration most people will just stay put unless the situation is desperate.

All I can say for those who migrated and now happy there.. Probably the best thing or decision ever made. Those who went there, came back because cannot fit in..sorry..not your fortune nor luck.
I also know all those who went there for studies, then don't want to come back..2nd best decision ever made. I know of a very traditional Chinese couple (and in their early 50's) and family (not a word of English)..migrated to Canada in the late 60's..sold everything and left. Their offspring are now doing very very well!..Fate was kind to them.
For me, I wish I had, but probably not my fortune and fate. Now regret like shit! Now old already, how to go?..all easier said than done. Look lah..some people are with a fate thats been kind. Unfortunately I think I'm excluded from this, and left to rot here.
BTW, was at Speedmart99 just now. A pack of Taj Mahal Poppadam (something supposed to be dirt cheap?) is now RM2.00, increased 25 or 30 sen, Shringgit! Bah! All part of silent increase without anyone realizing anything till buying.

I know a specialist doctor who migrated to UK. Sold everything in Malacca and fit in well to the new country BUT his son could not adapt to the new envornment and suffer depression.

He came back, restart his life here in Subang Jaya. Son is now working in an IT firm in cyberjaya….

I think may not be a problem to me as I commute often between SJ and Malacca..

Malacca seems to be my ideal retirement place – I was born there and used to the life there. However, maybe I am getting too accustom to high rise living, I am not too sure whether I want to stay in a landed house permanently..

I am also getting choosy, I want a house with view and this can only happen where I stay in high rise. In term of ranking, Penang has the highest point in my list. The Andaman sea view from a high rise condo is probably the best one can get from condo-living in Malaysia. Another plus point is Penang is a mature area for condo-living just like KL. Don’t ever try your luck in small town for condo-living when people are not ready to stay in a community-sharing building.

Since the retirement age has been extended to 60, I still have many years to change my mind and decide. Who know, I may end up in other country..

You can say that again! So many flat, apartment, condo, high rise, whatever call it, place look so attractive, clean and dream home when new. By 5-8 years time, the place looks no better than slum, ill maintained, all sorts of smells at the corridors, wanton dumping of trash, old furniture, lifts smelling of urine, vandalism, graffiti, etc. You're lucky if the lift is still working and the buttons all still there. They only care about behind their own door, even then you can cast doubts. A lot of 4th world mentality lurking beneath. BAH!..whats the difference?.. here in Subang and USJ got homes looking so bad that you feel uneasy at some eyesore during some visit. Proper maintenance culture isn't in Malaysian dictionary or vocabulary.. Most things are "tuck lah", or "hai kum ke yong ler!"

I like Melaka too. I worked there before. I still drive down there now and then on a day trip to look up old friends and eat the food.

I used to own a two-room flat at Garden City, Bandar Hilir. Since I came back to KL many years ago the property fell into neglect and I sold it off at a loss.

Melaka properties cannot invest lah . Their land code is also different. That's why the big developers are absent from the state, as told to me by the lawyer who did my SPA.

Yup!..a single story terrace cukai pintu is almost the rate of double story house in USJ Subang.. say 200+ here, also 200+ there for single story...No joke!

A friend of mine just took up a 40 hectare land in Rumbai in Pekanbaru in Riau Province in Sumatera and building 22ft x 70ft terraced double storey houses and selling at USD55-60K.... Building lots of them actually because its on a JV basis where land owner provided land FOC for a stake in the profit sharing.... I arranged it... if you're keen PM me hahaha.... The HQ of Chevron Oil Indonesia is located in the area with their own 18 hole golfcourse.... all oilmen expats.... and one international school....
