All people have their own definition of "affordable" or "cheap".
For example, my "affordable" sofa is a RM399 model from IKEA. Outside friendly furniture shops rarely or cannot offer the same quality at that price.
Try Cellini. I think they still have a showroom at the top floor of subang parade, next to Yamaha music.
I like their modern minimalist style. My sofa and dining table are Cellini. I think is around rm15k for both sofa and dining table..

I got it from the row opp.Western Digital, having survey around it is cheaper than those in Seri petaling / Sg Besi Highway where they sold the same design at RM2200.IKEA RM399 exclude installation and transport.I agree with Lee that IKEA has a lot of modern design and immediate stock whereas local shops don't carry stock.
There are alot of furniture manufacturers in Sungai Buloh New Village. They do entertain local customers although they concentrate their business for the export market. Prices in local furniture showrooms are grossly overpriced.
The thing I do NOT like about local made furniture however attractive or appealing it maybe, I observe after very close scrutiny, mostly used recycled or rubbish wood in its architecture. Afterall its like "who's to look underneath" and "it still good to use". I'm not saying all are like this, you get what you pay, but that isn't always it..it can be high price, but still poor quality if compared to the real deal. IKEA's marketing philosophy is they make en mass and can sell them cheap. Local furniture manufacturers cannot and never can compete like IKEA. NONE can! I bought local made Merbau period style wood furniture decades ago and they're an exclusive local furniture industry. I bought them within affordability at that point of time. Now that merbau wood is scarce or prices have rocketted through the roof...what I bought is probably worth 3-4X now. Glad I own these, and they're sublime example local furniture craftmanship.
Just like Speedmart99 chain..they buy bulk and retail cheaper than even the biggest hypermarket here. But then, groceries isn't the subject here..sorry!..but same business strategy.
Actually Sungei Bulow New Village got a lot of hidden cottage industries, one of them are furniture upholstery and such...don't ask me where..I can't recall where.
