Those who care have no power. Those who have power don't care.

"People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Governments should be afraid of their people."
    - Alan Moore, V for Vendetta

"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government there is tyranny."
    - Thomas Jefferson, 3rd US president & the principal author of the US Declaration of Independence

But it's not the case anymore in Malaysia, isn't it? When government is not afraid of the people's response when it oversteps the line, it is an unhealthy thing. Will our children have a future in this country that is fast becoming a dystopian society?

Well, add in elements of loose cannon ultra nationalists and how its sensationalized in the msm every other day, contribute to brainwashing and honing some quarters towards siege mentality.
From my POV they are NOT doing this country any good. Its certainly NOT addressing any COL issues which is going to make a lot of people's lives miserable.

I have been thinking about this too. In 20 years to come, what kind of society our (non bumi)children would be facing? At present, we are already a just over 20% minority.

Over the last 6 months, I heard a lot about what's going on in business world. Contractor doing shoddy works, bribes to get certification on safety related works, bribe the Purchaser if you want that contract, Supplier's marketing staff wants a cut to supply goods, job done and verify at site but customer refuse to pay because they are big enough to bully the SME,....instead of focusing doing your job well and professionally, you have to learn to deal with crooks,..

So many businessmen are out there to cheat you if they can,...you are deem stupid if you got cheated and not because you want to believe they are honest businessmen.

Education - you better be on your own

Health care - too long to wait in government, too expensive to pay private hospital,...

    Security / safety issues..

Housing are expensive, beyond reach for many,..

    20 years from now?

since 10 years ago, I have been hearing people saying, send your children out if you can afford, may be that's the way to better quality life.

The power base was built over 57 years. Over these years who gave them power? It's our parents and grandparents. Once the monster becomes big and powerful, it is very difficult to bring it down.

    20 years later, I guess :-

apartment (Klang valley) - should cost RM2,500 psf in OK location, RM3,500 psf in prime location. Should make existing property owners happy but the kids now who want to buy property 20 years later will have to work till they cough blood to own a property.

health care - only for the poorest, waiting time is very long and wrong diagnosis is very common in gahment hospital. 2 nights with minor surgery in private hospital should cost no less than RM30K (now it's already close to RM10k). Also, forget about resting in peace in any of the landed Nirvana burial ground. It will only be for the rich.

education - medicine, laws and specialised science course (e.g. aeronautic engineering) are reserved for kids from rich family only.

20 years later is a relatively long period, still have time to do some preventive measures or at least some damage control...

    1) have less kids. Give the kid the tools to "connect" to the world. Forget about this land, no future for them.

    2) consolidate your wealth, invest less if you are already ok. No need to be richer, just make sure you won't be poorer. The $$$ in your hands give you a choice when you f#*x% mad with what is happening here and can't take it anymore. At present, here is still a cheaper place to live relative to other better places.

    3) if you are not in (2), try your best to reduce borrowings and try not to commit new borrowing. Over a longer period of time, you will have a chance to close the gap and closer to (2). Think of cheaper places to retire, do what the Japanese and European do - move to cheaper places for retirement.

Why worry of problems that don't belong to you....

Ya, power corrupts. A good politician is one who is six feet under.

Politicians from UMNO cannot be relied on...a good person can never survive in the corrupt system.

Make hay while the sun shines and move on if you have the means.
