Dunlop, only if I can afford, otherwise mid priced Dreamland already good enough. I can't afford those with Royal appointment or royal charter. ESPECIALLY WITH OUR EVER SHRINNGIT!
A 200 quid barang = RM1,000 here..high class wor! There are many still buying economy mattress from the friendly lorry that ply residential roads.

Hey we were at the same place! . Looking the the various brands I too got confused. Everyone is saying theirs is better! To decide which is most suited for me I do two things. 1, check the price, to make sure it doesn't bust a hole in my budget. 2, lie down on it to check for comfort level. I like both, I buy it!

I only look at those sub RM900 range or wait for warehouse sales when prices are appealing. Careful not to buy too thick mattress or your existing bed sheets won't fit. Most people seem to have those 6" thick mattress, mine is much thicker, which is when I've to carefully shop for suitable fit bedsheets. Again, I cannot afford those that look plush and super comfortable...the price is very very uncomfortable.
I have to admit I've had my fair share of bad experiences with cheaper mattress, after a while it either sag or you will feel the springs behind your back...Have to be careful with non reputable brands.
Another is the pillow. For me I'm only comfortable with Dunlop Latex pillow, no other. I cannot get a good nite sleep with all those feather, cotton, plastic, water, whatever softie softie pillows. Its just me.
I ain't no authority or expert on sleep furniture...just that I look for what suit my budget and will allow me a comfortable sleep. Few thousand Shringgit mattress is out of the question..

You got a point there, Jan. Rather tricky isn't it? Guess it's trial and error at the end of the day. It'd help to do some research prior to buying though.

All people react or enjoy differently, sleeping habits differ among humans...down to personal taste lah..serious!
    For me I prefer,
Latex pillow, cool and proper head support. Mattress? very firm springs, thick fabric and padding that won't wear out making you feel the springs much later.
Cheap build mattress are the worst, the springs are acceptable, its the top fabric, padding and quality that deteriorate over the years. The fabric can stink, yellow up, break up, disintegrate. Worst is...sanctuary for BED BUGS & FUNGI!..don't think your home is immune to all this. WE LIVE IN A HOT TROPICAL AND MOST HUMID CLIMATE. Thats why I should think we should use and change mattress up to 8 years no more..trouble is..premium quality mattress is BLARDI EXPENSIVE here..and troublesome to dump away.
I tend to use hotel mattress as a form of reference point, I'm not referring to el-cheapo, economy or below 3 star hotel beds. Reputable hotels would buy and specify a certain type that would last long and not have issues, then buy in bulk. I would use these types as a point of reference.

Allow me to share my 2 sens worth.

    * Foam mattress can be a bit warm.

    * If you like good ventilated mattress, go for spring mattress.

    * Make sure you get a good quality spring mattress, otherwise you will end up with
the spring system coming apart, become noisy with every turn when you sleep. Or
worse, with the spring poking out of the mattress.

    * Try to get a firm spring mattress, especially if you have back problem.

    * Consider a firm spring mattress too if you partner turns a lot at night. Loose spring
will cause the whole bed to move each time your partners move and turn.

    * If your partner is a "violent" sleeper, then best to get 2 singles and combine into
    one.

    * Try to find not only a good mattress, but also something decently light enough so
that you can do rotation every 3 months. This is to ensure even wear and avoid
    depression.
Many people ignore this guide but it's very important and will ensure long, lasting
    mattress life.

    * a good mattress uses superior quality material including the spring that will not lose
    its elasticity and support.

A reliable good brand should also give you a long Warranty and hence peace of mind. Remember you are going to spend about 1/3 of your life on a mattress...so dont be afraid to spend your $$. Just for your guidance and comparison, I bought my Slumberland Royal Sapphire Posture Spring mattress (Queen) in 1997 for about RM1600. And it's still serving me very well today...not a single noise and the spring system is still intact as from day one!! I dont know if Slumberland is still in the market, price , model etc but just to share with you my personal experience.

    All the Best.
