'OVERPRICED' hawker food

I sometimes feel like whacking or boycotting hawker stall owners for selling overpriced food. For instance, I was recently charged RM7 for a plate of Chow kuey teow (with one fried egg added) and this is from a coffeeshop at SS19. The owner obviously thinks she is 'somewhat' famous as she uses her own name as the stall name. for those who frequent SS19 for CKT would know who I'm talking. Seriously, RM7?! I mean that lady doesn't even pay business tax. That place is usually frequent by school kids parents and majority of working class people. I find the CKT aunty's pricing is a bit much. I've noticed the price hike of hawker food over the last year or two (maybe longer) but with our economy being such, one just can't help but to voice out before these non-tax-paying-small-time food stall operators gets out of control.

Danny,with a fried egg ,it should be RM6.50.maybe you order "BIG" portion,so the price RM7 is reasonable.

Jan, RM7 or RM6.50 can buy a single serving of Hokkien mee and based on the portion size in comparison with, say a plate of CKT (BIG)...? I think the price is absurd.

Danny, I'm afraid I don't know which ckt stall you're referring to. I get my ckt fix at Parkway, which btw, is quite good, as Currymee would agree. . I used to like Boon's (Restaurant Lian Heng), although they charge higher prices but one day, they served me a plate so bland I only ate half! I have not been back since.

This is the coffeeshop with the best 'chap-fun' and its opposite to Choy Kee. I still remember at that time when she served me the CKT and asked for RM7, that had my colleagues' eyes widened up. I seriously think the NGOs that manages petty traders or hawker food businesses must do something about such daylight robbery and it is certainly isn't my fault when the CKT lady recently had a car upgrade or bought a new smartphone. Such reminds me of how coffeeshop owners would charge 10 sen more for a cup of black coffee simply because there been a price hike of 10 sen in per kg of sugar?! As far as I'm concerned, there will be one person lesser to eat her CKT.

Ah ha! Hock Hin, it is. I remember eating her ckt once a couple of years ago when the Parkway one was closed. I wasn't particularly impressed so I didn't go back. Might as well as RM7 for a plate of ckt is a bit on the steep side, I must say, with or without added fried egg. Thanks for the heads up, Danny.

Me and my office lot too frequent Parkway and they do have a decent variety. I'd like to hear more from others on hawker food stalls in USJ or Subang that are over charging us poor residents

Danny,sometimes its about supply and demand.There is a place in Pudu selling roast pork rice,per portion Rm17.you would not believe the crowd that comes in droves.Another place in Pudu market lam mee noodles,two pax bill should be around RM25-30 plus drinks.
