Agree with you, Jan.
Anyway, my favorite stalls in Hock Hin, apart from the Chap-fun....would be (drums rolling)..the Taiwanese Beef Noodle, RM 6 a bowl, dry or soup and the chili sauce (kaboom!). I'd suggest the loh Shee fun or the Lai-Fun.![]()

Hey that sounds like what I could do with right about now! hahaha. I have been craving for beef noodles soup for a while. Someone suggested a restaurant in SS15 (14?) by the name Soon something-I-forgot, but when I got there, they were CLOSED! Damn frust man! lol. This Taiwanese beef noodles...how different is it from the local one?

Well, it doesn't have the stir fried minced meat as topping. Its completely different from our local beef noodle. The USP is in the soup base, extremely fragrant but minus the pungent smell of beef. You have to try it for yourself as most would say, taste is a very personal thing. Whenever i visit HH, its either the chap fun or this TBN. No more CKT for me that's for sure

It can be frustrating i know..lol. I don't know of any beef noodle in ss14, except for the likes of BKT, steam chicken and teow chew porridge. Oh yes, there was this one time where i tried out the fried laksa and what a disaster that turned out to be!! Somethings are better left untouched![]()
If it's expensive and the taste is so-so, why do you patronise them ?
Do you think they can survive if there are NO customers ?
It's because there are still lots of customers, that's why they keep on increasing the price.
Furthermore, I find more and more local chinese don't want to cook themselves anymore, so they hire foreigners to cook, and the taste worsens.
I have been trying to find good Penang CKT for ages and can't find any in KL/PJ anymore.
Most are not tasty and expensive.
It's demand and supply.
Too few CKT sellers and too many customers. That's why they keep on increasing the price.
If I knew when I was a kid, I wouldn't waste so much time going to university, must as well be CKT seller and be living in bungalow now.![]()
A Good Penang style CKT? Try this out.
[Sorry my directions may not be perfect, but most of you guys should be familiar with the area]
On Kewajipan, just before the traffic lights, the one that if you turn right takes you to Taipan - on the left is the Goodyear Court Apartments?? [Court 4 I think??].....there's a coffeeshop on the ground - corner lot, as you enter [on right side as you turn in]......sorry, dont know name of shop......there's CKT guy there who I feel is the current 'best CKT in SJ/USJ'........tasty, got Chee Yok Char and Lap Cheong....fried well.....and price only 4.50.
I've tried it a few times.....taste consistent.....friends with me agree its good too. Check it out
p/s:
Make sure the 'uncle' [though I suppose, age wise, he'd have to call me Uncle] fries.....most of the time, he is there......once a lady fried, tak sama
p/s/s:
As you turn in, there's also a coffeeshop on the right.....that's not the one, its the one on the left for CKT,......HOWEVER....just behind that coffeeshop on the right, [ie on the back row]......is the RM10 tilipia restaurant [sorry, I dont bother with names].......been there a couple of times.....nowadays only open at night.......at 10 bucks for a whole tilipia, we usually order 2
.....their best is the steamed and the fried thai style.....other dishes priced reasonable too.........Looking for a cheap dinner?

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Economies of scale. For all you know, this CKT fella is making more mollah than most CKT sellers. This is proven to be a more sustainable business module, good for the seller better for the buyers. Aiyah, lack of a better word or analogy = Supply and Demand![]()
Sure or not? Got stats and facts to back your "more CKT sellers than buyers therefore price hike" theory or not? I personally not a fan of CKT even more so when younger generations are more health conscious. I've eaten many years in HH and I can count the number of times I ordered CKT. I prefer the cheap-cheap chap fun. Speaking of cheap-cheap, the chap fun business is the prime example of economies of scale and have you look at the crowd?
And I forgot to mention.....in addition to the 'lap cheong and optional chee yok char', got prawns and 'siham' too.....plus the siham he uses is fresh out of the shells....not the pre-packed frozen stuff
Sadly, he's not as busy as he should be.....possibly the location.

OK, I shall bring my office lot there and find out if his skill has any truth to it![]()
Supply and demand determines the price, if there are a lot of CKT sellers and no customers, do you think the price will increase ?
Do you want to be a CKT seller and charge rm7 in the village with no customers ?
If there is a cheaper CKT but with the same or better taste in the same area, do you think customers will come to your stall ?
