I updated my accounting software to include GST. The software company supplying it says I can claim up to a certain amount as rebate. I am to give the e-voucher to the software company and pay the balance.

I got that e-voucher and together with the invoice I paid the software company. The software company have been harassing me for the amount stated in the e-voucher. They claim that it takes a long time to get the rebate. So should I pay or ask them to go fly kite?

Anyone having this problem?

Depends on when you bought the software. If you bought between 12 May to 31 May 2014, then you can claim directly with SME Corp.

If you bought the software after that, please DO NOT pay the vendor as SME Corp will make payment for the rebate directly to the vendor, not to you.
You just need to pay the difference.

Thanks, could be an eye opener. But to me with a simpleton's mind, I gather that 6% will be blatantly added to all products to existing prices. Those vendors I somewhat chat with seem to point to doing just that.
Say if some product was previously 100, 1000 or 10k NETT.. they just add on 6% GST and you pay more. They're not about to revise the price and offer any reduction, nope, they're not doing that. So I gather.

Come April 1st it'll be my paramount responsibility to consistently avoid ALL places and products that automatically charge extra tax, unless I'm forced to.
Reluctant me..period! I don't expect others to follow suit, do what you want with your hard earned money..its your prerogative.
BTW, I learned you maybe paying more than what you think is simply 6% GST.

Buy online from Ebay, online shops.
Product cost RM100
Card charge = RM106
MY Kastam = another 6% = RM112.
So you pay RM112 or extra 12%.
Happy?

I will be pissed off if they change last minute, so much time, money etc had been invested by companies to be compliant and ready, if they change, Customs better be prepared to refund or get sued !!

hahaha ... try CHAOS esp for the book industry .... it is crazy there because if say a book is used as a main textbook by one university, it is exempted but if another university uses it as a reference and not main text, kena GST ... so go figure ... Most bookstores will just whack 6% GST across the board and then argue later !!
