Iran is bitterly disappointed not to get a point against Argentina. They fought well and have plenty of chances of their own but fell victim to a spectacular goal from Messi in the last minutes of the match.

Germany on the other hand has that bit of extra steel and came from behind and draw with Ghana 2-2.

Sadly, Bosnia had a Dzeko goal wrongly disallowed for offside. Wtf. They deserve a draw against Nigeria.

Anybody favour USA to beat Portugal again tonight....?

    A bit of history....

In the 2002 World Cup in Korea, USA beat Portugal 3-2....after leading 3-0 in the first half. There were two own goals...

    1. The first was a deflection on a Portuguese defender's shoulder, which the goalkeeper was not able to hold on to....
    2. The second own goal was by an American player in a goal mouth melee..

Portugal at that time led by Luis Figo, was a hot favourite in the competition...

    Cheers!

Been a good and open WC so far albeit less drama and controversies like in the 1980s...where games between France and Germany has always generated so much drama...

But I think this year it will be the usual big guns in the final 4...tipping Brazil-Germany and Holland-Argentina semifinals...

And Germany will again thump France in the quarterfinals!!

Such late drama in US vs Portugal. The US have only themselves to blame. They just needed to kick the ball around and keep possession to play out the last half minute of added time. If they had done that Portugal can take the same flight home as Spain since they are neighbors.

Portugal and Ghana are still not out from this group. Both sides will have to play for a win with a good goal difference and hope Germany beat the US. For the US, a draw will suffice.

After being routed by Germany, Portugal still have a mountain to climb in view of their inferior goal difference compared to Ghana.

Another do or die match is Italy vs Uruguay (Group D). Good entertainment guaranteed. If it is a draw then goal difference will be the tie-breaker.

Ah...now it is down to the last group match to decide who plays who in the next round....

    1. Groups A and B: The unknown is where Brazil would be - top Group A or second...? But it won't be known by the other teams in Groups A and B until they played their matches first. The Brazil-Cameroon match is at a later time slot....go figure! Looks like all team managers wouldn't like the idea of playing against Brazil in its home ground....what with some (queer) refereeing decisions in Brazil's matches. I hazard a hunch that it would be an all South American encounter with Brazil taking on Chile. This would be a real "cilipadi" match to savour!

Theoretically, if Brazil tops the group then the other teams would prefer the lower portion of the round 16 draw...with only Argentina as a former world champion. The top half potentially has 4 former world cup champions...Brazil, Italy, France and Germany...

    2. Group G: ...and so the party of musical chairs goes on until the last match! What a way to market the excitement with a potentially bigger TV audience. For info, last night's USA-Portugal match was already a big hit in the US...go figure! The last two matches in this group would be very interesting..! Hang on to your chairs, sofas, pillows...whatever..!!

    Cheers!

Anything is possible. When those teams which are supposed to go through, falter or key people injured. Would be interesting...but I feel Brazil may not make based on current performance.
