Malaysia isn't ready for some phenomenon like in some developed country.. like this. What works there doesn't necessarily work here although conceptually doable. Culture and circumstances here are so different.
Just like high rise living... look at our low cost HR living..the place look like shitt or slum place after a few years..due to numerous reasons. Does it work like in Japan or USA or UK?..It won't. Cos WE ARE NOT READY!..
Malaysia will always be 3rd world mentality at least for my lifetime. People only want and want, and want..but not prepared for the upkeep nor consequences.

    hmmm true indeed....

throwing garbage, unkept house surrounding, allowing pets to poop everywhere is still happening here in USJ...
respected with some ppl who tag along plastic bags while taking their pets for evening walk or jogging...
cat owners who prepare pooping area for their cats...
throwing away unused or bulk items at places meant for bulk items and not just leaves it under a big tree...(maybe they want to give the tree occupants furniture to use?... heheehh

but we can changed that... we can..and we must for the future....

As I see it, its not changed and actually becoming a culture and terminal disease like cancer.
Look at the brand new roadside TNB switch boxes at THE MAIN PLACE COMPLEX!..FULL of illegal stickers and sorts.. even this can't be addressed. Rubbish on the roadsides, thinking there's convenient MPSJ services to take care of that. BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO SPEND ANY MONEY to dispose it all, where MPSJ do provide for a fee. ITS ALL ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY AND ATTITUDES!. But buy fancy cars, furniture, fine dining no issue about $$. I wish MPSJ come enforce super strict and fine RM1000 for littering, only then people MAY learn something. But I did say "FINES" ain't the solution all the time. Conservation isn't an inherent culture in this land.. Exploitation of any opportunity is, even if it means enraging others who share the same neighbourhood!
I can think of numerous issues, which people think they are "civilized" but despicable and deplorable actions and attitudes do not reveal any change. I got neighbours who throw rubbish and tell their maids or tree cutters to throw anywhere convenient as long as its outside their gate. Blardi irresponsible!..HIGH CLASS or CIVILIZED KONON!... EVERY OTHER DAY I see this.. I even reprimanded one neighbour for one particular event..but NO CHANGE! Quietly they throw when nobody's looking. Pet poop is the least of problems..perhaps a slight irritation but thats a natural thing, not to say I do like it. I've said my piece.

Service or disservice, perhaps Ungkb's postings do reveal all sorts of daily deplorable attitudes of people that will continue to persist. Depressing!

BSLee,what you say is totally true, look at USJ9 in Domino where the tution centre located. These kiasu, kiasi parents don't even want to park their cars in the parking lot instead just park and hog the road just to wait for the "diamond" just to finish tution.Everyday at 10pm jam pack just like 7am federal highway jam.Take a look if you don;t believe.

It is now early April and a blink of an eye will be June and half of 2014 gone. Till now nobody knows who are the newly appointed Councillors, MPSJ web site tells you nothing. Every where in USJ is in a mess especially in areas where the LRT works are, potholes all over, roads needs resurfacing, drains full of rubbish, cleaning contractors sleeping every morning in almost every park in USJ. No action being done, MPSJ Councillors tak ada! MPSJ Supervisor tak ada!... The list goes on and on.....

I used to stay in Sri Muda and studied at SMSU SS18 back in early 1990s... USJ were just being built at that time. I have actually cycled a few times from my house in Sri Muda to USJ to meet up with some cycling group to ride around USJ. Via HICOM and then the rear USJ entrance. The gathering point was USJ 4 Apollo, those shops were still unoccupied back then. That time really 'don't know die', but traffic were much lesser back then lah..

We had a volunteer cycling coach at that time, supposedly same era with our National Coach Datuk Ng Joo Ngan. The group was mainly students from the 2 Subang schools..
The landscape than was so much different, almost car-less...

USJ3/3M onwards to USJ12 was an empty lot of land which used to be a vegetable farm so it has "beds" and we used to do dirt bike jumping there... haha... Imagine the sound from the exhaust of my 2 stroke Yamaha WR400? I think those neighbourhood in USJ4/6 area (Casablanca) must be cursing and swearing at us... but the real fun was the long ride from USJ to Nilai along the highway thru KLIA being flattened by bulldozers... red earth track sticky and nice all the way!

I can go back further in time when there was no USJ. SS19 was the end of the road. Got to turn back as it was dead end, no USJ, no KESAS, no bridge.

When I looked for a home here..it was just built up..all looked so new, hardly any occupancy, Other areas USJ 16 onwards all under construction, that was far away, my area looked so new, uniform and organized..
Look now?.. lots of houses differ from original theme, multi colors, some design blanked off, the front features expanded (blatantly flouting by laws) making the next house look like dunno what?... ..some remodeled from Tudor to Victorian design.. NO LAW WAN!... This is Malaysia for you...COWBOY COUNTRY!..anything goes and you're RIGHT till you're caught!..

Base on my own observation, one of the main reason why USJ/SJ has such relative good reputation, apart from easy access to everywhere, and everything (Except a Zoo ) is clean roads, well maintained parks and lots of trees. Those things need regular maintenance, trees need trimmings, drain need cleaning, parks need sweeping. Can you imagine our beloved park become a nest for drug addicts? Then those people will have excuse to built condo on that plot of land, the only green lung we have in this little plot of heaven we called home.

I am guilty as charged. I am not as fortunate as you are, when I first bought my house here, it was 2nd - 3rd hand? It was rented out, roof bocor, pipe bocor, tile rosak, kitchen smell like cat poop. Me and my wify have no choice but to renovate, since I already pay 20-30k to renovate why not make it to suit our taste? Plus we have floor plan drawn, approved by MPSJ somemore.... lol....

Some terrace houses got Roman pillars, some more. And some renovate the house to resemble an office building with glass panes all over.

I remember one corner terrace house in Bandar Utama. It is a corner unit, first one in the row. The original roof tile is the same brown colour for the whole row. But no, this fellow have to be different. He change his to blue, sticking out like a sore thumb.

Well, everyone have their own idea of beauty.

It seem to be the trend now when new owner take possession of an old house, they MUST renovate... That's what happening in USJ18.. Most of the houses once sold, then can see the new owners start knocking this wall down, extend to the max allowed etc... Easily 6 figure kind of renovation... Ppl now so rich ah???
