Only the very good or those who have specialised can earn that much as monthly salary. The majority are way what was shown above and trapped in the Dual Income middle class... Even for the medic field, only the specialists can command that... many new and even old GPs in shop lot esp in the smaller towns are just 'kias pagi makan 3-7hari' (why do you think many had resorted to selling MCs and cough syrup?). Many do Not earn enough to zoom around in the latest BMW 5, let alone a shiny overpriced Ferrari.

... Even for the medic field, only the specialists can command that....

I think only the "old" specialists can command that...

"old" means easily more than 45 years of age then only the specialist can start to think of earning serious money... whereas in other niche profession, 40 years old is the time to start semi-retirement...

I used to bring my kid to a child clinic in Taipan for vaccination before going for holidays. I chose this particular pediatrician because he always has readily stock of "good" imported vaccine and more importantly, his clinic business hours. He run a child clinic on daytime in a famous private hospital in SJ. His shoptlot clinic in Taipan is opened EVEREYDAY (Monday to Sunday) from 6pm to 9pm. Imagine a child specialist has to work every freaking day from morning to night..!!

The doctor who administered anesthesia to the deceased, was not an anaesthesiologist but a gynecologist. So, why a young gynae has to do part time to perform anaethesia in a upmarket dental clinic ??

There are quite a number of niche market professions that paid higher than the no.1 paying job in this list.

For a doctor ... whenever he saves a life ...
For a teacher ... whenever he educates a child ... (different from just scoring in exam)
For a parent ... when he raises a child with integrity ... that contributes positively to society instead of being a burden.

2 years ago, I attended an opening ceremony of a Law Internship Program organized by the Law Society. The internship program is for students who are interested to familiarize this profession. Apart from the students, judges, senior lawyers, government officers and some Member of Parliament were invited to the opening ceremony.

During the Q&A session, one of the students asked how much is a lawyer earns? The question took up by one of the judges with this reply… “if you want to earn lots of monies, be a chicken rice seller. You probably can earn more than a lawyer.” The judge’s intention was to tell the students being in this profession, it is more than the monetary counts but come with a heart of social responsibility for the society and the people.

The academic fees, such as NUS Law program costs about S$12,500 per year or about S$50,000 for the program which shouldn’t burden much to the parents. For medical degree, it costs about S$26,500 per academic year or about S$160,000 for the course which usually granted a scholarship by the MOH (Ministry of Health). In fact, I am quite surprised to read that parents need to fork out about MYR 1.3 million (or about S$434,000) for a medical degree.

From this perspective, I can’t blame the parents or students for asking the ROI (return of investment) ……..

The RM1.3 millions is the fee for a twinning medical degree offers by a private university (Malaysia campus in the 1st 2 years and the rest in the partner medical school in australia or UK).

I have a Singaporean counterpart who send his daughter to UK for an engineering degree and he told me he is SGD250,000 (RM750,000) poorer now…

Err..according to Forbes..the 7 out of 10 highest paid professions for 2014 survey from 1 million businesses in the US..are in the various medical fields.

They are earning salary over $200,000 annually..
including the one who merely gets to poke needles to put their patients to sleep before a surgery..

Where on this earth..a chicken rice seller by professioncould earn anywhere close to that salary?

This chicken rice stall in a hawker center in Singapore is not an ordinary stall. This is the only chicken rice stall in the world that was awarded Michelin 1 star !! The proprietor is a Malaysian from Ipoh, he worked his way up to establish what he is today.

Err..annual salary wise by profession(wage earner) he is not even near..the survey's figures even by Spore standards.

O does not know about "Michelin 1 star" rating..
unless it is about tyre load ratings..

$200K or $17k per month...you will be surprised to see some hawkers earn more than this. It is a matter whether you can take the heat or not.

When eateries are crowded with customers, there are two possible reasons, I think.

1. The food is delicious, service quality is good and the preparation is culturally civilized. Example, a simple Chinese fried rice from DingTaiFung....

2. The food somehow can align with the taste of the majority. The taste can be very subjective including x#-@% taste.. !! Example, some tribal food from south Asia...

Just my 2 cents sharing on food...

Delicious AND good service is not always together. For example, there's nasty vendors who'd can easily piss you off but still they're as popular as ever and people still insist buying. Insatiable appetite and money no issue rules! RM25 flied lice no ploplem!....the lice taste better than the lui!
