    All this is part of feudalistic culture and behavior from history. You are expected to show respect, show humility or bow down as common rakyat to superiors, classes or chosen ones seemingly above you. (just like some who may insist their employees call them Sir, Tuan, Lattuk, Tanseelee, Madam, Mam, Boss, Tai Kor, Tai Lou!...etc.) Of course this may not be evident in some developed countries or cultures of late. We're not USA where they address or show utmost humility to certain dignitaries like Mr President, Mr Vice President, Governor So&so, everyone else is either Mr or by first name, even your father in law. Its up to you anyhow. You're free to agree or disagree whats expected of you in this endless possibilities land. I reckon its technically your right to feel equal everywhere.
