A trimmed-down Honda Goldwing F6B?
Or for the heck of it, once and for all, go for it....
A friend and his wife retired recently. The couple plan to fly to Vancouver, Canada with a BMW GS Adventure. Starting from there, they will tour the world on the bike. They'll be away for about two years. They could have left by now.
" In the land of the blind the one-eyed-jack is king."
Oh yes, the BMW GS.... used to own a BMW R1100GS.... the best bike I ever owned in my entire life... still regret selling it but I had to as I was going away to Brunei back then in 2001.... the new BMWR1200GS just don't turn me on like the first model...
I rode my BMW GS with the BMW Owners Club up to Kunming (China) many years ago for the official opening of the Parkson Grand Departmental Store there... the Chinese traffic police, on their China-made 250cc... had problem leading us so we left them behind hahaha...![]()
HHAHAHAHA....only for the likes of us lah SM
If any usually tincanned retiree suddenly woke up 1fine sunny morning & just go get him/herself a big bike and go adventure riding to far flung further than Genting Hiland....
then sorry lah, they will be on a suicide mission. Early shortest & fastest way to meet his/her maker lah. No disrespect meant, but the dynamics are so diff from driving a 4wheels-tin can lah...
Met & rode with a newly retired tansri wiht his fat mama wife as pillion...he was just 2weeks old rider, on a spanking new RM200K bike...he crashed 50m in front of me at Genting Sempah, and it was a simple left hander...He was injured and is wife was cut rather badly and also suffered a bad facial bruise from the ill fitting helmet!
Better the newly retiree get himself one of the spanking Audi or something...

The other option is to keep the present Gold Wing 1800SE to tour but it will be hard for maintenance and repairs in some part of Thailand, Indonesia and even Malaysia.... perhaps get a Honda XR650L and put on a set of DP tires....
p.s. Tupai: Dato Dr Shukri, the eye specialist from Shukri & Hardip along Jln Ipoh is still riding at age 70+ his reliable BMW R1100RS and summore have Datin clinging on as pillion.... doing 80kmph lah - not bad.... they came up last Monday for durians (you were supposed to be here lah, talk only....)
Guys, my sincere advice…
Be very alert to avoid injury during whatever activities outside (of course, I am not saying sit still in the house and wait for the day..!)
I have seen so many cases of senior folks suffered and died of illness (not injuries) after they had a serious injury…
The illness can be any kind and cancer being the most common..
I don’t know why.. and I have no scientific explanation, just my observation.
Me think after injury or trauma, the old body is weakened and more susceptible to the attack from the bad genes inside the body…
Thnak Rhiga...you are right. We have to be a lot more mindful, careful and watchful of everything , everywhere, even every movement out of peripheral vision...Plus physically, the reflects too might have slowed down a notch or two, or even three! My knees some how seem much weaker than last year.
SM, Ah Hoi's brother specialises in GW lah..he can take it apart & put it back withut losing a screw, blinded folded too!.
I personally know the GW club of TTDI, KL, Muar, Kuantan and even K.Terengganu & Kota Bharu all send their GW to him. I saw even 2 GW from Kuching last week for servcing & repairs etc...
I trust Ah Kian 100% as I trust Ah Hoi....
