Depends what he really meant about "afraid". As in superior in military might?. afraid to take responsibility for the catastrophe, afraid of further repercussions?.. go figure.

Anyhow, I'm sure people in this region aren't amused with this recurring or annual event. I'm hoping for very affirmative action and prevention.

I don’t think President SBY is hinting he condones the “slash-and-burn” forest fire that affected the health of millions of people including his own people in Riau. I guess he tells those so-called “Indonesian nationalists”, the apology has nothing to do with their national pride if Indonesia is wrong in the first place. He is doing it for what is right, indeed, he is a great man.

The mentalities of some Indonesians are far from civilized. Neither they nor their loved ones are affected by haze so they can say anything they like. Worst of all, to these "nationalists", their so-called “national pride” can be on the expense of others illness and death. With this kind of mentality, how great can their nation be?

When natural disasters struck their country where were all these "nationalists" to help their fellow citizens? It is the neighboring countries like Singapore and Malaysia who extended our hands to them, aren’t we?

    Truly pirate (lanun) mentality!

If their nation is go great they would not have so many people going out to work as construction workers, maids etc. Its just that they have more people and by numbers alone they can overwhelm the minority. Those who have been to their country and moreso those who have stayed there a couple of years would appreciate the great difference between the haves and have not. You can see on the streets of their cities, hordes of vagrants running around selling things at traffic junctions or those who run around barefoot with a tin can in hand sniffing glue. Imagine shopping complexes which are guarded by armed security to keep out vagrants and those who are obviously poor. They can only paw their fingers at the glass windows and before long they are chased away. To the haves it is going to be like that and as they say life's a bitch for those poor. Imagine 20 years ago my boss took about 10 of us (senior managers) to a nightclub restaurant where we had dinner and watched singers entertaining us.(with hostesses to pour us drinks and feed us fruits!!). In a night we blew like 20k (ringgit) and my boss did not even bat an eyelid.

20yrs on, and it is still happening lah... PLUS c'on, admit it. Tell us the truth lah.

Regale us with tales of how after the karaoke session, these lovelies indon ladies, for want of a glorious late nite supper, a king size luxurious bed, with giant warm streaming jacuzzi and full blast shower, with a fridge fulla goodies and a late morn lazy, satisfying & sumptious breakky in a 5star hotel...would have gladly followed you guys back, for free!

And the other option for 'em? Go back enmasse via company kijang, reach home or flat at 4am, no hot water, thin mattress and no fridge, let alone food...

    Betul or not?

Maybe a good time to invest in an air cleaner as it is going to be a yearly affair unless the Indonesian president is serious about tackling the problem. I bought a MedKlinn Versa for RM899 from Watson in One Utama. Normal price RM1049.

IMHO, these machines to me are BMW..big money wasters...clogging, spend money on new filters, maybe servicing. Dust or microdust particles in Subang (or where I stay) is overwhelming since day 1!..haze no haze!.. even with my windows mostly shut! I've to service my air con every 6-8 months because the damn blower is THICK WITH DUST!
Maybe I move to CH is the only viable solution. Seems no way I can solve the problem, air cleaner no cleaner...IMHO!

I tend to agree that's why I stay away from them. There are good days and bad, nasty dusty days. Try not to go out too often on dusty days and do wear a mask. I believe our body is an amazing machine. It will be able to take care of itself if you keep it healthy and strong.

    Just my two non-dusty sen.

I had to invest in a device like the MedKlinn as I was choking away the past few days. Even indoors the smell of smoke and the chocking dust made my asthma worse. Had to see doc in USJ2 to get nebuliser treatment. The Versa has three settings for different room sizes and seems to be okay. I had a MedKlinn Asens Auto in my car and it helped during the hazy period earlier this week. Practically slept in my car. I would love to escape to across the border up north but house minister would kill me.
