Nonsense comments.... what do you mean exhaust fumes from cars are only dirty but not poisonous? Hello, any lower secondary student who has completed the Form 2 Integrated Science will tell you exhaust fumes can even kill instantly!

Since when do Malaysians (or Asians) smoke cigars in public? They have always smoked cigars in cigar divans and they don't inhale the smoke.

Get your facts right before trying to influence others.

i will give up smokin' the day they banned smoking in enclosed pub/bar/karaoke/club/restaurant...
Until such time, it is the smoker's right to bear smelly chimney.

Not sure about now, but long ago Big Ciggie companies have Senior world travelling 'Smoke Engineer' on their payroll. His task was to assist enclosed air con outlets to design & regulate air-flow/movement...so that the non-ciggie party poopers wont be lodging complaints about the smokin'hot diners/party goers in the same room...

It also has a A-tent card on each table. The message there: 'Respect the Smoker's right'

Ban or no ban in public park is not an issue. We are all smoking now. But we are not smoking Malboro or Dunhill. We all are smoking asap from Sumatra. It's free.

It is an annual event since Commonwealth Games 1998, remember? It won't be solved because 9 out of 10 companies are Malaysian GLCs doing open "Slash and Burn" forest clearing method.... Sime Darby and Guthrie and Golden Pharos and IOI and Felda and KL-Kepong and Wilmar and........

So they're all "untouchables" ? Singapore seems very angry and asking for their names already.
And some are so anti about some minority smoking in some public area...those over the other side are doing much worse to 2 or 3 countries nationwide that can land people into hospital almost immediately!

if our government is so health consicous, they should just issue a nationwide ban on cigarettes ... anyways, what is so good about smoking except that the duties or taxes that it brings ?

Lets not start a another dispute if you put "sin tax and duties" into the equation. You might as well fairly crusade for ban of alcohol, close down legitimate gaming, gambling, etc. All of these have dire consequences.

Happen to be away from Singapore on vacation and "escape" from this man made disaster. I just came to know that PSI (Pollutant Standards Index) rose to very unhealthy level of 290 at about 10pm just now.

On the ground, people are very unhappy with Indonesia. Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources, made a request to his Indonesian counterpart to provide concession maps to act against plantation firms that allow slash-and-burn farming. We will exert commercial pressure against these companies causing the haze.

Singapore has AWAC planes and access to satellites.... can always know.... I'm sure they also host the biggest oil palm company in the world is Wilma Corporation Pte Ltd.... and owned by Tan Sri Robert Kuok....

There is no political will to resolve this problem. The Singapore govt only make noise this year because they got hit 290 @ 10pm and if not for the >150 PSI last few days, they will also keep quiet as a mouse. So, the Singapore govt has to make a little noise such that even ex-Penangite Irene Ng now an MP also screamed out loud! If not, Singaporeans will scream at them now that they also has 55 dengue cases per day, world #1 also!

The haze is an annual event since 98 so why Singapore screams so loud only this year?

If you don't smoke and we do not encroach onto your rights, why do you care about what is good or bad about smoking? You should buy a gas mask....

SiangMalam, this was what Indonesian Minister said....."On a claim made by an Indonesian Forestry Ministry official on Monday that Malaysian and Singapore palm oil companies that had invested in Indonesia may be responsible for starting the fires in Riau, both ministers “asked Indonesia to share the names of errant companies involved in illegal burning”. So, it is not just Singapore companies. Nonetheless, we will deal with our Singapore companies causes such disaster.
