This Malay lady whom I met recently usually drops by with her husband
on weekends at the Backyard Pub below my office in Sri Hartamas.
Julia Ibrahim, or Julie as they call her, happened to be one of the lead vocalists
of the short-lived Cash Band which churned out some pretty classy music
during the late 80s.
They recorded a single album in 1989. She married shortly after that, at which
point the band unfortunately decided to break up.
These songs are from that album.
I remember "Sebuah Nama Seraut Wajah" was a hit in those days, receiving
quite a lot of airtime on the radio.
"Andainya Kau Bertanya" also reeived quite a bit of airplay, and all the while
I thought it was Sheila Majid.
Their lead guitarist, Lat Long, was in the same class as Hillary Ang, one of
the best in rock in the country during that era.
I think her band would have gone quite far had they not broken up after
that sole album.
