If you are referring to Maxis fibre optic then your comparison should be with TM's Unifi and not streamyx....
Unifi is running on fibre optic cables while streamyx runs on copper telephone wires.

Maxis rents the fibre optics line from TM. They both run on the same backbone.

Maxis does not offer TV channels and therefore charges a lower price.

I am looking at the lower cost option of maxis ie. copper or wireless and not the fiber optics which is essentially unify.

Narrowband services is still somewhat overpriced and holding and squeezing your bolas with not much other choice to choose from..Sorry, this is Malaysia, not abundant of really good deals around.
Look at the price of "very stable" Streamyx and Unifi.. A hard look at it makes those paying for 1mb Streamyx look stupid compared to the fee for something 5X faster for another Rm30-40 more per month. 1mb streamyx should have been down priced or worth RM50 and below, and there's no hint they're ever going to. IMHO.

I've already CUT THEM OFF my "must pay every month" list..no more paying anything to this bolas squeezing entity.
Dun ask me what I'm using in place.

What are your expectations for the value and what are you're prepared to pay or afford?

All plans have pros and cons and how does some cheapest plan suit you.

Are these critical and pertinent questions to consider before buying some plan.
    1. Price, how much per month willing?
    2. Data Quota limitations? Unify and Maxis Fibre are currently unlimited for quite sometime now. No telling of the future and data quota can happen anytime.
    3. Personal or Family or multiuser heavy usage and do you require constant stable connection? What speed are you prepared to pay for?
    4. USB Wireless dongle or kit for single user?, permanent home connection for all to use?
    5. Require performance for video streaming, multimedia and other applications which require faster than 1mbit speed.
    6. Require VOIP TV, Telephone?
    7. Mandatory long term contract stipulation.

The "cheaper" plans all have data quota limitation or may not be available in your area. Can you accept this limitation or unlimited.

Read this news from this perspective ...

...and read this from another perspective....

Is this good or bad....your take...the bigger spectrum given to a player with no proven track record...sad but true...

Same performance as Unifi, as ride on TM optic infra, with Maxis own gateway. If TM is down, your Maxis oso down. So far happened only once about 2 weeks ago, 1 whole day outage blamed on TM.
    Other than that its ok.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you have problems with the Maxis router as i read that it gets hot and resets itself? How is their after sales service? I am contemplating changing from Unifi to Maxis as Astro is offering a very attractive package together with Maxis.

I have been using maxis fibre internet for about 9 months and have no issues with the connection nor the router getting hot -mine is switched on 24x7 unless I balik kampung. I raised my router about 2 inches on some kind of "stand" so there is air circulation around the router. So far I am happy and got it for RM118/month.

I too have been using Maxis Home Fiber since mid last year....switched around the time they had the RM118 for 10Mbps package.

    Here's a couple of pointers:

    * If you are already on UniFi.....no need to switch.....its the same stuff....price no more RM118....besides, 5Mb or 10Mb - can't tell the diff.
    * Service wise - Maxis is OK. They had some challenges last year, but so far [touchwood] all is 'hokey-dokey' ......There was a 1 day system down recently....but other than that, been OK.
    * Many stories of their Thomson modem heating up and disconnecting, but mine seems fine [touchwood again].....anyways, just in case....I put it on a old 'cheapo' notebook stand with fan with usb powered by the modem....must say though, am surprised that the fan is still working considering it has been running continuously 'non-stop' from Aug 2012....best free gift ever
    * They say....that if you are into 'online gaming' then UniFi is better because of the frequent 'disconnect' on Maxis....this used to be very frequent last year....not so now but still does happen mostly in the wee hours.....it disconnects and reconnects almost instantly....those who are browsing will not notice it, but I'm told it affects the gamers....best to check the Maxis Homefibre Thread @ Lowyat for update.
    * The VOIP phone service 'works'....but I felt my UniFi one worked better....you couldn't tell the difference btw 'land-line' and 'UniFi VOIP'....with Maxis, you know its VOIP ....but I'm not complaining because my phone bills have dropped by around 300 bucks! [free overseas calls and 10 hours to Maxis under old package - UniFi got free calls to landlines, but who calls landlines these days other than old folks ]
    * The Astro-Maxis package is still on - well as far as I know, that is.....go check it out at the Official Maxis FTTH Thread [@lowyat - all 123 pages of it ]
