They are unhappy because the gomen raised minimum wage. These useless good for nothing Chinese companies only know how to operate based on low wages. RPK calls them leaches and I concur. While they drive their MB, BMW, and other fancy cars, their workers work 12 hours a day because they need the overtime to survive. I hope these useless companies pack their bags and go to Vietnam or Bangladesh where there are cheap labour over there. Take their polluting factories and environmental-unfriendly business elsewhere. I, for one, will not miss them. We need businesses that embrace and take care of workers' welfare. We need high tech companies. We need companies where workers can grow and develop a good career. We need companies where their workers can afford to buy a car and a house. Not those who bring in and support the 3 million foreign workers.

I have a small company which I set up with an ex-colleague who had been a HR Director of a MNC for 28 years! Together we bought a training module from Australia and presented to GLCs like MAS Academy, Petronas, Maybank etc... tak boleh masuk Pak... susah mahu masuk! Extra cost of doing business or unlevel playing fields, whatever it is is, the Chinese shot ourselves in the foot by continuing to support a regime who could not care less if we live or mati!

    Chua,

How about the Chinese, Malay, Indian or for that matter any Malaysian who employ maid(s) and the maids have no public holiday, no Sunday break, no working hours i.e. work until the daily chores complete..??

And sometimes, these maid also have to go to the hawker stall, food stall, “tai chow”, satay celup store, nsi lemak stall, chicken rice store or whatever stores which I believe many of the forumers in this forum also patron..

    Will you call them leaches..??
If yes, many of us are indirectly financing these leaches !!

If no, lets give all the standard perks and remuneration benefits to those maids cum helper in the store, and do not complain a plate of plain nasi kandar is RM25, or a stick of satay celup is RM5 !!

Just my 2 cents of the common Malaysian double-standard..

ps. I know your point but I would say this is a free world. The workers have a choice to stay or quit and the Chinese "leaches" have a right to continue the modus operandi they deem fit...They will be replaced by business changes if they don’t change..

How come this shop mentioned above cannot continue after 84 years of history whereas Din Tai Fung can..

A lot of businesses in Petaling Street area have changed hands or changed to something else over the decades for various circumstances and reasons. Lots of shops I was once familiar with in that area few decades ago do not exist now. One example of them was a family friend. The managing partner sold off his stock and whole family log stock barrel migrated to the west in the 70's. I believe it was for the better for the whole family's future.

Actually, the maids should be paid the minimum wage too. For reasons known to them, maids are left out. And of course, everything should be regulated; the maids working hours, the agency's fees, etc. And maids are not always the angels. Many ran away causing their employers thousands of dollars, great stress, and much inconveniences.

This is what happen when you have an economy based on low wages. The saying, "If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys" is quite true. We literally have 3 million low salaried workers and slowly they will take over the low cost businesses. Look at Australia, their minimum wage is about A$15.51 per hour and yet they survive - the food court stalls, the little stalls in the malls, the pop and mum stalls that employ one or 2 workers. With their price of petrol and income tax, I always wonder how they survive. Here, hawkers do not pay income tax. They keep their net profits.

If the gomen raise minimum wage per hour to RM12, many locals especially students will work every holiday. Many single parents will also work a few hours a week. We won't need so many foreign workers. This is my take.

Sure, some maids are worse than monster... they poison the toddler, and some are living hell to the employer..

But the point I want to highlight is – people don’t complain when they are the beneficiary of the wrong “approach/system”…

Heck, we have to pay like the way Singaporean or Hong Kee pay their maid, at least this is a basic respect to a human being who do all the mundane works that others don’t want to do !!!

Don’t tell me the Singaporean/Hong Kee earn more…

The truth is those who don’t earn more over here also what the luxury of comfort they don't dserve to have..
The easy way is by getting people with lower quality skill to do this job… Period.

    I end it here..

Hongkie maids are off work once a week especially Sunday.

They roam the shopping centres or congregate in the parks or under some kaki lima chatting & BBQ.

Do we give our maids an off-day?

My Filipino maid works half the week while the rest of time we go out dining kaki lima , Asia Cafe, Surfing wirelessly and eating heartilly ABC, KFC, MCD, BKT and CKT almost everyday. No wonder my wifey insisted I close the restaurant!

Talking about maids... where is my maid, when is she coming back from her Raya break back to Palembang? Give one inch, take one foot... but just found out wifey gave her "extended leave"...
