Independent Chinese School in SJ/USJ ?

Looks like GE is coming close, after Kuantan, I just read that Segamat is seeking an Independent Chinese School for its area.

Perhaps it is time for SJ/USJ to have one too ? Perhaps that will give all the SJKC parents here another option ...

    What do you think ?

I don't think it is practical to have the school here. Most parents, after SJKC would prefer English medium than Chinese. Without the support and students, the school can not run well and detrimetal to the system.

Better to have 61 good Chinese Independent Schools and 100 of lousy ones.

The cost of mantaining a school is very high, if there is insufficient fund the school can't attract good lecturers/teachers.

I got a PM asking me why am I promoting the continued "segregation" of the children into secondary schools ....

Firstly, let me straighten ONE KEY POINT - as far as I am concerned, GOOD QUALITY EDUCATION comes first and a top priority to me - if the SMK can do it, I am all for it. However, judging by the feedbacks that I got from some Lick Hung parents with older children in SMK, they are all going to the dogs as well ....

If having an SMJK or Independent can give parents a BETTER OPTION, I am all for it.

As for mixing and integration, GET REAL AND SMELL THE COFFEE .... based on all the racist tremarks by the SMK teachers that we heard and read about in the news recently, I doubt any children will feel the desire and need to be "integrated" ...

I am just looking for options to GOOD QUALITY EDUCATION for my kids future.

And in the current political climate, IF the voters of SJ/USJ feel that is what we want, why not ask/demand for it ? After all, we are TAX-PAYERS too ... I rather my taxes are put to good use than line the pockets of another crony !!

    Jenny,

While I agree with you wholeheartedly, the POLITICAL REALITY on the ground is that public ENGLISH-MEDIUM school will never make a comeback as it will means the failure of BM Kebangsaan system.

Too much pride at stake - like the popular Malay nationalist saying - "biar mati anak dari mati adat" ....

I don't think you can call those 'English medium', it is more like 'Malay medium', correct me if I am wrong.

During my time, it was truly English medium as Science, Maths were taught in English and we have additional 'O' level English marked in UK.

Most importantly, the teachers were English speaking themselves.

Theu will never let the english medium schools return, what more with all the ho hah about the effects of the christianization of those schools (purportedly it will affect those who so much as go near the schools much less enroll in them!) Most of those schools were run by the la salle brothers. There are still some in sarawak. Dont know who runs them. they still have st joseph and what nots in kuching.

I concur entirely with that prospect. I don't think there's enough proficient English speaking teachers to fill all the required posts nationwide. The generation of good English speaking teachers during post Merdeka till the 80's are all gone, unless all may settle for less qualified teachers. This regime SPOILED the matter in the first place.
