Being busy.....but this topic is cool......!
Yeah! Satish.....reminds me of old times' teh tarik sessions. I'll "drop by" (literally) if there is a session on....work schedules, permitting of course....
I got my handle from "Happy Days" sitcom....Henry Winkler looks cool man! Anyone remembers when it first started on local TV? Unfortunately "my Main Man" the late Patrick Loo is not with us - yet another cool person. God bless you, my man!
Let's keep our nicks online and we get to know each other when we have teh tarik sessions, shall we?
Happy days are here again?!
Cheers!

CH is my initial that I used in many occations.
My boss also called me CH.
I went for Money and You program and they all known me as CH.
There are people who asked is this CH that CH that I know about from somewhere ... and I get to meet one of the community member who also a Money and You graduate and get some business done ...
I did not use my full name because people always mispronaunce my name.
Thus an initial is better that way, though I am proud with the name my parents gave me.
sidenote: C H = Chee Hung.

I believe some people might chose a descriptive nickname to promote a certain image or invite a particular response. And sometime the chosen nickname does reflects the behaviour or characteristics of the real person.
Beside served as a mask not only to hide identity, it is used to call attention through the expressive power and imaginativeness of ones mask.
All is up to an individual preferences. There is no right or wrong in this case but rather the acceptance of the rest of the forum communities.

Sometimes the name has already been taken up so we are forced to use other names.
-
Whatever names you all go by. Just want you all to know that it was always great meeting up at all those KYB (Know You Better) sessions. You are all generally wonderful people and it has been great knowing and having you all as neighbours and friends. Let us just spare a thought for Loo and Harp. Loo could be very outspoken but deep down he was still a great guy.
Rgds,
Patrick

Lets meet for a teh tarik session and get to know the e-community face-2-face.
-
mine is an old gaming and irc nick. alternatively i go by 'sith lord julz' but star wars is so out.
how comfortable you are would inevitably determine how much you want to share with others.
a few years ago i had a bad incident where someone stalked me. i was honest at that point... oh yeah i'm so and so from taylor's college, doing this and this program... the guy apparently was in the same college as i was.
i thought what the heck, we were from the same college, same community, same chat room, what's wrong right. i was WRONG.
he started following me everywhere, even when i walked back to my house in usj2 he'd follow from a distance.
one day i saw him on the net again and he was angry at me... because i came out of the library and did not say hi to him. i didn't even know who he was! he started telling me how he loved me but how he hated me now, how i was 'mean' and 'cruel' - he got really spooky. i logged out. then i informed the university who helped track him down and give him a stern warning. (for being a nut apart from anything)
that taught me a lesson - my real name has no place on the net, and you have no idea who the other person on the other side is. he could sound really nice but turn out to be a real weirdo later.
if i want to meet up with ppl later that is a good thing, i have done so, only after a lot of thinking. but i won't publish my name to be 'honest' when the ppl who come to this forum and read things, pick up i.p addresses and what have you not are from all sorts of walks of life, and may not be forum members themselves. you can never be too cautious.
i am the sort of person to delist my name from the phone directory. but i feel that as a woman who lives on my own mostly... i can never be too cautious.
i think it may be a bit different with guys than the women... but still.... you can never be too cautious.
i think i overused 'you can never be too cautious' too many times

Your Highness Empress Julz, I concur with you. One can never be too careful in these days and age. I have worked with a certain social body before and I know the many kinds of weirdo there are out there. Even the males should not be any less careful. The ladies may get harassed, molested or even raped but the men can get waylaid, robbed and perhaps even maimed.
So, like I said before.. whatever names you all go by....it doesnt really matter. Life is short and we only get to meet each other once in this lifetime. Let's just learn to luv each other for his/her goodness.
Take care.
-
don't lah refer to me as HRH..... shy...
but yeah, can't be too careful.
in the UK they have police squads who go into children's chatrooms pretending to be kids, to catch out ppl who are looking for children for sex. it is so sad that there are ppl like this out there, and even sesame street forums are not safe for kids.
but that is life, and this is the (sort of sad) world we live in.

hi
I'm from the US, and i'm not embarrassed to admit my name. I think the whole us involvement with Iraq is b.s. and i'm completely against it. I went to every anti-war rally in nyc and one in washington d.c.
We're starting a new movement over here called the Progressive Labor Party where we're accumulating an enormous following of people around the globe to stand up to the injustices of the US Government and its corruption, greed, and lies.
if you want to check it out i think the web address for the party is http://www.plp.org
And my name is Theresa
ps:
not all americans are blinded by the media and the government, its just that with the Patriot Act, the freedoms we used to have are limited to squat. we are barely allowed to have anti-war rally's. the cops are given now all this free jurisdiction to arrest anyone anti-government, anti-war, or along those lines. if you seem anti war people call you anti-american. no no, i'm anti- imperialism and anti-b.s.

sinleong is my real name.
i understand if some people rather use their nick. some of the things we discuss here are so sensitive...
-
uchangeng is a real name. it belongs to me ever since i was born. Jeff would call out "uchangeng!" whenever we meet around taipan.
I prefer to address a person, especially my neighbors, real name. but we do also have security to think about. So, if you're not comfortable revealing your name your folks gave you, have it your way. It is perfectly fine. nothing wrong. no mishap will ever fall on you. not a curse.
EJ call me Mr. U. you can call me uchangeng if you like. But, I hope no one would call me "Hey U!" Don't do this.
