Be obedient and subservient as long as in civil service and insist on it as a career. No 2 ways about it regardless either one is the ruling regime.
Would anyone tolerate rebels and troublemakers within if PR were the govenment. Works both ways and everyone expects top service when dealing with them at the frontdesk.

Hello kawan!.. I anticipated what would be your retort. TWO different matters. What happen and what is being told is DIFFERENT!.
There's traffic laws on the road for as long as anyone remembers, but there's countless A-holes on the road commiting offences every minute somewhere. How leh!
Anyway, I'm presuming this current administrator would have sent the same message down the line when took over. Do your job because you're being paid to perform well anyhow. What happens after that is another problem on their hands. Anyway, civil servants have to perform or be shipped out. Trouble is...shipping out is "transfer". Lame! Do like the private sector...can't perform = walking certificate!...period! There's thousands of applications most of the time.

The newly chief secretary was telling the cicvil servants to be loyal and not listening to the oppositions empty promises. What's has that got to do with civil servants to service the rakyat? No, it was sounding political chian of command to civil servants which is not a civil thingy to do.

I can understand where he is coming from making this statement about loyalty to the government. Most of you would be surprised to know just how many in the civil service are unhappy with BN!

This is NORMAL lah .... "Saya yang menurut perintah" syndrome ... the beauty is ... every civil servant (myself being a former) knows that such "directive" is the norm or else the KSN etc will "lose" their jobs - wayang kulit ... SO WHAT ... when I vote, I vote lah ....

So civil servants in Selangor, Kelantan, Penang and Kedah are supposed to be loyal to the PR state govts and not listen to the lies of BN.

Now that phrase, "do not listen to the lies / promises of the opposition" has been uttered by so many BN politicians (past, present, retired, washed out, brain dead) that it is practically a copyrighted BN slogan. So for the Chief Secretary to say it means he is spiritually if not physically a BN member.

Absolutely correct.
I believe a lot of people tend to be utterly confused of the separation of roles.
A government servant is nothing more than a servant (as they are rightly named) - servant of the people (the Rakyat) and they also serve the Ruler (does not matter which political party).

I see so many debates in this Forum where some of you confuse the issues and believe that the people in the civil service will automatically support the ruling party. Since most of us do not work in the civil service, then we cannot assume that all the civil servants will swing the election for the political party in power so long as they get the perks and baits from the annual budget.

By the way, these servants are not minions. They do have a mind of their own and they are also reading the alternative media.

End of the day, some of you are simply talking without basis. You have not done any survey of the mindset of the civil servants and so you make assumptions just because the majority of the staff are of a single ethnic group. For those of you who think the civil service are minions of the ruling party, just ask yourself truthfully, are you not pulling opinions out of the air, from heresay that is recycled amongst people who continually recirculate the same baseless opinions? Just coffee shop talk and everyone believes what they want to believe rather than find out the real mindset of the civil servants.

Of course, civil servants are supposely to be loyal to the govt of the day. Otherwise there would be chaos and confusions to the standard operating proceedures. But they are not suppose to be promoting political agenda which is rocking the very spirit of democracy of being the mouth piece.

Even in USA, where govt are interchange from two major political parties, there is no call for the civil servants in political preference or slam dunk the opposition parties.

I do not object to the other statement made when he said civil servants to be loyal to the govt of the day. In fact, it was a good reminder.

But I stand by the statement made by the Chief Secretary that was totally uncalled for when he said saying they should not be fooled by the opposition’s “empty promises.” “They should know better. Don’t be taken in by empty promises,” former Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) director-general Datuk Seri Dr Ali Hamsa said in reply to a question by the Umno-controlled New Straits Times on promises by the federal opposition.
The question arise - if the opposition were to win the next GE, what is his statement then?
