It look like he also observed his download speed to be 1.2MBps which is 1.2 Megabytes per sec. Now, 1 byte=8 bits so his download speed can be translated to 9.6Mbps which is just a slight bit lower than his service of 10 Mbps - I would say he achieved 96% of the best effort possible. That is actually a v.good level because real download speeds are usually a lot lower than the bandwidth.

So I find nothing wrong with Kenny's declaration.
Thanks Chang, I could not have explained this any better. About the torrents download throughput, I said I managed to achieved 1.2MB/s. This throughput is the total for both the download and upload. Sometimes it even hit 1.5MB/s. At 1.5MB/s (equivalent to 12Mb/s), I am getting more than the 10Mb/s service I am subscribing from Maxis!Having said that, torrents throughput also depends on the number of seeds and leechers. I have also seen for just the download it hit 1MB/s for a while but then drop down and stabilize at a few hundred KB/s.

    Here's my speedtest result

    ================================

Thanks for both Printscreens. Now it is clearer.

The second speed test of leekenny is very impressive.

Next question, which is important, UPLOAD or DOWNLOAD?

its would be also good to test various location outside of Msia to see your actual thru put to compare within Maxis and TM.

select a server, say one in Aust, one in US and one in EU.

And also connection problem too. After all, Maxis is using TM backbone.

So it is better to wait for the TM hari raya package (if any) because deciding and changing..

VeeJay is right here....the speed is relative to where the server is located.

I've switched to Maxis Home Fibre - been a week now. Here's my feedback as of 1 week of use. I was previously on UniFi 5Mbps

    Browsing
Quite frankly, the speed difference is marginally faster, you wont even notice the difference. Besides, most of the sites we access are overseas and frankly, browsing speed no different. There are still some issues on Maxis side, with certain sites requiring a refresh to load... [See Low Yat Forum - White Screen] - a bit of an annoyance, but a refresh gets it up quickly.

    Download
I'm not into torrents, will get my kid to report back [haven't done any yet]....but I did download a relatively large file with accompanying videos - whole thing 150MB+ which was located on Amazon S3 server, took about 7 mins - so no big deal [then again, there have been complaints recently on the S3].

Here's my Speedtest - Maxis Server KL

    Palo Alto, Ca US

    London

    Melbourne

Will feedback more in future....but current conclusion - considering that the RM118 promo is over and if you are already on UNiFi, just stick with it till some new offer comes along

For all purposes, Maxis Fibre Home is UniFi - just that you subscribe to it via a different provider

If you already have Unifi, when the come to install, all they do is switch Modem which the Maxis guy will bring, a new FibreHome Modem? [this the TM guys bring along]....then they switch ports and you are online....takes 15mins. A couple more minutes for testing and they are gone.

Another thing to note - the Ping Rate with Maxis is High....so it seems that if you are an Online Gamer, you are better off with UniFi which has a lower Ping [well. I wouldn't know, but thats what Gamers say ]

Have you folks tried the namebench program from google - it hunts down the fastest dns servers available for your computer...

Google namebench and read all about it and follow its recommendations. Just change your network adapter's dns settings to the recommended values. Don't touch the router's settings.....

Use chrome or firefox browsers for your web browsing. Install a must-have addon - adblock - and you will have a better, faster browsing experience! Observe the webpages unfolds rapidly. You would be amazed...!

Do your speedtest and check your performance..

Thought I give you the heads up...!

    Cheers!
