    All Things Tablets....

Just want to start a thread on all things tablets......so folks just share tidbits/tips/scoops etc on tablets....
...eh an ipad is still a tablet..ok..? Don't wanna get into a debate here...

To start....here's one app/gadget I sure like to have. Is this thing available now in Malaysia..?
No more smudgy fingers, how cool can that be...?! Multi-tasking would take on a new paradigm....!!!
Quick get your techy/geeky friends to start thinking about creating apps to take advantage of this innovation.
    Enjoy!

That's one cool gadget. Nice. May spell the demise of the mouse but will take some time as there's a learning curve and peeps are very used to the mouse by now.

Perhaps we are getting on in age and our dexterity is coming up short....
Muscles and nerves tend to get on in age too....sigh....!!!
But still it is good exercise (mental and physcial) and done in the comfort of your home...!!!
You need your fingers to zoom in/out the text/pictures for these "low foo" eyes to see......!!!!
Yes...I see the demise of the mouse soon....

    On another note:
I find myself NOT logging on to Facebook more often than usual since having a tablet. More towards the Line app and movies and reading news. How about you folks...?

    Cheers!

No difference for me. I'm going into FB just as often.

Ah....Microsoft has (finally?) joined the touch technology big time with its Windows 8 release. The current Taiwan Computex show would see its official launching.

Already the big 2 - Acer and Asus - is going to showcase its tablets running on Windows 8. Cloud computing is going to be the new computing direction it seems..

Could this event see a renaissance of a new tech boom..? and hence usher a new era of economic revival for the world? Only time can tell....

We sure live in interesting times...!!!

Here's a video for you to go gaga over Windows 8. Its a partner preview event in Taiwan Computex show. We used to think Windows runs very slow. This video may convince you otherwise...

See if you can forecast what present technologies/hardware would be fading into the sunset pretty soon...and welcome new technolgies on the horizon....

    Enjoy the video

The Surface Pro is looking like THE current Tablet (and Ultraportable Notebook) killer. With USB3.0 (OTG, I hope), microSDXC, mini DisplayPort ....all the critical things missing from iPad! If that screen were 1920x1200 instead, it'll be near perfect (however, that extra weight could turn out to be a severe drawback). Asus Transformer can go fly kite now.

IMHO Surface RT is too watered down and doesn't offer anything substantially different from what current Android Tablets have. What's with the Tegra 3 cpu ..someone should tell them to stay away from Nvidia stuff.

    You know what.....?

With Microsoft going in like that (in the hardware business), it is pissing off a lot of OEM partners - the Taiwanese esp......
Somemore, MS's tablet launch hype was criticised by the IT business community kaw-kaw.....go google about it...
Windows 8 is not a proven thingy yet. There are so many legacy hardware/softwares in the Windows platform presently, that it is like cleaning up the Augean stables....duh!

No...the transformer is not going to be a dinosaur anytime real soon. Don't be excited...

NVidia/Teagra cpu..?...you ought to brush up on its good points....

    Cheers!

Apple does it so successfully, Google could also be going that way (watch what it does with Motorola), it's common sense to go direct in the hardware business if you really want to succeed now. Google tried to support OEM partners with Android...and it's getting thoroughly messed up with so much fragmentation, the OS updates to individual devices are delayed again and again. Every partner follows their own selfish agenda with this scenario.

Asus has stagnated with Transformer....too many bugs, late to the market, etc. I had been waiting for the Padfone since last year. And it's beginning to look so dated now that it's finally starting to be available. Where's the long promised Pad Infinity? No sign of it, it's now 10 days to the end of the targeted Q2, 2012 launch date.

In my books, the Transformer Prime has already become a dinosaur with Tegra 3. First to market, but it's the slowest of the current generation of quad core ARMs, and OMG even Linus Benedict Torvalds' just used the four letter word on Nvidia in frustration.

Oh...Mr Torvalds is a respectable, though (at times) a colourful character in the open source field. I guess being an impassioned "workaholic" one sometimes is "entitled(?)" to an occasional outburst. You have to see where he was coming from when he made that gesture.

Background: He just shared the 2012 Millenium Technology prize award with stem cell scientist Dr Shinya Yamanaka. He was in a Q & A session with an audience participating in an event for open source developers in Finland, his home country.

Here's the video. You evaluate....pretty long. The "gesture" comes around the 49:50 mark. And an Nvidia employee spoke towards the end of the video..

And here is info on Nvidia's response.....

As expected, a lot of pretty words from Nvidia in response.... The point is, I have heard this all before from Nvidia. I have been disappointed by the Tegra 2, after swallowing the sales pitch by Nvidia. Up to today, my Android phone still cannot run ICS properly because of the dismal support from Nvidia. The Tegra 3 is following the same route. Full of bluster, little of the muster. Nope, I won't touch any Tegra 3 device for now. Gimme a Snapdragon!

In typical MS Windows tradition.......the `hands on' revealing of Surface was a disaster.
    http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57...ut-goes-viral/

Rumours of Surface Pricing: USD599 for RT, USD999 for Pro.

Me thinks the RT will fail at that price. It can barely compete against the iPad 2 (let alone the new iPad) which is now priced at RM1,200.00/USD399. To have a fighting chance, it must launch at below USD350. Or we will see a repeat of HP's Touch Pad.

The Surface PRO is in a different league....it is not fighting against the new iPad. It is the next level above the tablets. It is IMHO what tablets should be. A full-fletched work machine, courtesy of Ivy Bridge, which can be `reduced' into a fun machine. If priced lower, say USD799-899, I'll happily skip my next ultraportable purchase and go for it.
