When was the last time you go to a clinic?

I mean for treatment for the common flu or fever. I went to one last year and it cost me RM50. It was one of those chain clinics.

I went to the same clinic this afternoon. This time it cost me RM75.

Of the medicine prescribed there was antibiotics @ RM7 per pc, some paracetamol, something for bodyache and lozenges. Of course, in SJMC consultation alone is already RM90.

Inflation is really that bad, huh.

You can thank your caring 1PM for that. Every medicine now must come with a special hologram sticker that can only be supplied by 1COMPANY. And the drug companies have to get somebody to manually stick one on each packet of medicine. Other than that the cost of everything from rental to waste disposal (again can only be done by another 1COMPANY) have also gone up.

Of course you can also go to the KLINIK 1MALAYSIA where you can be seen by an "assistant medical officer" can get drugs supplied by another 1COMPANY (Pharmaniaga) that the Ministry of Health have to buy all drugs from.

Seeing what was given to you in your 'take home goody bag' ....looks like you've got a flu/throat infection, probably a fever with bodyaches and a sore throat

GP's these days are dishing out a lot of the 'newer' antibiotics which are fairly effective, but expensive....at the price you paid, maybe you got Augmentin or something else....

Many question the rationale of GP's giving Antibiotics when the flu may be a Viral one ......but the "argument??" goes that though the flu may be caused by a virus, there could be secondary 'bacterial' infection and so you 'need' those antibiotics ....Now, this is not saying that your Flu/Throat infection is not Bacterial in nature...it could be....but there is no way of knowing other then taking a swap and sending it to the lab for culture....besides, by the time the results come back, you could have got better with just some Panadol and Salt Water gargle

Then again, there's nothing really they could give you for a 'viral infection'...then how much to charge you for just some PCM/Norgesic and Strepsils

So no worries....take you medication and rest, you should be fine in a few days.... hopefully you took some MC, why work for the 'Man' when your sick....its your right as a hard working, law abiding citizen

OK, I'm done with my Rant on GP's and their secret 'Ferrari Fund'

Dun know why the doctor give you antibiotics of RM7 a piece as in the rule book, it is always the first line of antibiotics to be given first. The bagful of goodies probably cost Rm15 for Flu from teh pharmacy across the street.

For the Olde Mean Chef, the treatment given is a dose of Vodka as being alcoho for Flu , it has anti bacterial action.
So, the last time I went to see a clinic, sumore one of the best in Klang Valley ,just this week to say "Hi, wassup doc, 15 years no C ".

Robbers of the despicable kind.! Tell you a true story . Many years ago at a private hosp. where my Father in law was admitted with aneurysm . Spoke to the consultant..blab...blah.....cost ..blah..blah.....My family members were all partially confused so we opt to discuss among ourselves to digest the reality of the issue.

While the whole group were in the elevator , a doctor said 'can I help '? since we were talking quite loudly . One of my relative were desperate .She said my ...bllah..blah..this that...consultant said this said that......very confused.....blah ..blah..

The Elevator doc. Said k no problem come to my office ,we all follow ,there he gave a aneurysm 101 to all of us . And told later we have to pay Rm200.00 for his consultant fees . We paid. (in cash which i find rather odd..)

Many months later ,I finally began to realised this doc. was probably' travelling up and down the elevator fishing for 'confused' family of patient' !

went to a pediatrician in Taipan yesterday as my son had throat infection. Waiting time was more then 1 hour and the bill can out to be RM140.00!!! No antibiotics
There's no point in waxing lyrical eloquent if the root causes are not squarely identified, without subterfuges and euphemisms

The way I beat inflation for these common ailment like Flu, Headache, sore throat etc is to buy them from pharmacies.

Of course, I spend some time reading pharmacy books to know what I am getting.

No antibiotics - your son probably didn't need it.

RM140!!! - must have been very difficult to diagnose - not easy to identify what caused that 'throat infection'

This one looks like the 'Lamborghini Fund'

IMHO , that specialist got the tabik spring from me for not be a "trading doctor". He is doing what he was trained for. Prescribing what is needed - no more, no less. Why give antibiotics for something the baby dun need - more or less as in lebih kurang bolehland style? ( the trading doctor would giving you multi supplement and treatment to get you covered without having to make the right diagmosis . ) Also the patients get impressed for having some many bags of diifferent goodies. Sometimes, they even give candies to the parents too.

Looks like your rant on doctor has not stopped at post #3....

    Well, rm140 is likely because:
    1. Pediatrician is a specialist. Specialist consultation fee easily RM70+ per visit.
    2. Normally, they prescribed proprietary drugs, not generic drugs as commonly prescribed by GP.

Last but least, the clinic is in USJ Taipan.. not the far far away USJ20+ or somewhere along the sting wet market ss14/ss15 in SJ..
Patients have to help the pediatrician to pay the expensive rental...

Specialist consultation is capped at a maximum of RM 180 for the first visit and RM 90 for follow-up. That rate has not increased for the past 10 years. If you think that is too much then go to a GP for even cheaper, the Klinik 1MALAYSIA that your caring 1PM has set up for you.

You are just joking arent you? when you mentioned the capped nonsense ? arent you really?

The fees are in Schedule 13 of the Regulations to the Private Healthcare Facilities & Services Act 1998. Go buy a copy at MPH or Popular if you want to verify for yourself. Non-compliance is punishable by 6 months jail.
