Looking for media player

Hi, there seems to be so many types of media player, that is quite confusing. Some stating with sigma or Realtek chipset..(frankly I do not have a clue what that is or how important is it)
All I'm looking for is a media player with wifi so I can stream movie /tv shows from my desktop to my tv. Need something that is in HD and able to read MKV files. At the moment, I'm using the PS3 to do it but lately been having problems with the PS3 detecting the DLNA server. And also at times when it is transcoding the MKV files, movie/tv shows would be laggy.
anyone have any recommendations for one that does not cost an arm and a leg? Thanks
