Having witnessed an abuse case in a pet shop in subang jaya, I have written to the authorities to ask if they can pull the grooming and pet sale licenses from this shop. If you have witnessed abuse in that shop, could you please contact the authorities? Pets deserve ethical treatment.
I am writing to inform you about a case of animal cruelty I witnessed at ****, Subang Jaya, Selangor yesterday morning, Sunday 11^th March at 1030AM.
When I went in, there was a member of staff kicking a dog cage along, and the dog was yelping. I told the man to slide or lift the cage so he wouldn't frighten the dog. He did.
Then, when I was paying for my cat biscuits, I heard agonised screaming. The man serving didn't turn a hair, nor did his colleague standing next to him.
I went to the back and found a girl holding down a poodle on the top of a cage. She had the fur in his neck bunched in her hand and she was twisting it. The dog was screaming in pain.
The woman refused to let go until I yelled at her. Then she said smugly, "He snapped at me, he won't do that again."
That dog was so traumatised that it hung in her hands when she lifted it.That poor animal had been hurt continuously for at least a minute.
The attitude of the abuser is appalling enough but the fact that the other members of staff were not in the least worried about this, and failed to even look up, shows that cruelty in that branch of **** is routine.
I am writing to you in your capacity as Head of Health Department to ask you to investigate this case.
I am not requesting that you shut down **** as business is a vital part of the community. However, I am requesting that you withdraw the licenses from **** to handle live animals, leaving them to sell pet food and accessories only.
I am requesting you cancel their live pet sales license and groomer license not just because of this cruelty case but also for the following reasons:
1. Consumers dropping off their pets to be groomed have an expectation of proper professional standards.I don’t feel that **** can assure this basic expectation.
2. Abused animals are unpredictable and liable to bite out of fear.Consumers buying such animals from this **** outlet risk injury, which could be a big problem for a small child.
3. As you know, some consumers won’t understand that abused animals need special care and retraining.Anyone buying an abused pet from **** is liable dump them on the street or at a shelter once they bite or act out in any way.
We already have too many of these sad cases and it’s not right that the rakyat and the rescuers should have their burdens added to.
I appreciate you have many cases but I would like you to investigate this.If you would like a written, signed letter rather than an email, please let me know and I will post one to you today.
If you want further information, I shall be happy to reply to your email.
This kind of news disgust me .... And recently with the case of a stall owner throwing hot water at a stray dog ... this people has no humanity left ..... I say we hurt them where it matters most ... their business ...
Let us boycott this shop till the owner or management apologizes or something .... If we don't do something, everything will be swept under the carpet because the pets can't speak for themselves ....
For me, I bring my pet dogs to a petshop at USJ 9 ... so far, so good ....
I would assume this pet shop is perhaps is one of those large chain of pet shops. I have seen that this people who groom the animals have very little experience and probably are part-timers? Please PM this shop name to be too.
Slight deviation for the dog owners - I was visiting my brother in USJ one day and there was a lady grooming his golden retriever. My SiL says she's very good, so I got her contact, just in case. She also does dog-walking and pet-sitting. If anyone wants her contact, pls pm me...
reply from "the shop" 1 month after the dog abuse incident and discussion of fixes...
Note: the # are to refresh our mind on the discussion we had a month ago about how "the shop" can change so that it's staff don't abuse the pets in their charge. The replies from Sean, the CEO of "the shop" are underneath.
Ellen #1. You assured us that you were running an internal investigation and would make sure that the woman who hurt the dog and her co-workers would be retrained.
Sean: -according to HR policy we had taken disciplinary action toward the staff.
- her co worker had been re-train the standard operation procedure and pets care procedure.
Ellen #2. You said you would institute a scheme whereby all "the shop" groomer staff are sent to PAWS or the SPCA for 3 to 5 days during their training period. Learning how to deal with frightened, abused, shy and other problem dogs will a) sort out who has the heart for a job working with pets, and b) will provide really good skills training.
Sean - we had confirm our visit appointment to SPCA in mid of May.
Ellen #3. I suggested you improve animal care in "the shop" by dividing your staff into 2 groups: those who handle stock and those who deal with pets. You said you would think about it but didnít give a definite answer.
Sean: It had been exist in our company. Pets Groomer and Pets Care Assistant (Pets), Outlet Team Leader (Stock)
Ellen #4. You promised that in the case of complaints, the company will review CCTV footage immediately and use it to correct and disciple any errant member of staff.
You said a month ago that your CCTV system wasnít up and running right before but that you can now check on any one of your shops from your central office. Also, anyone can report an incident and you will review the CCTV right away.
Sean: - CCTV all function as usual now.
Appreciate all your above suggestion and is always good to make us to be better. The above case which you had withness is an isolated incident, However we had deal with it seriously. You may feel free to contact or email me if you need any additional information or clarification.

To circumnavigate mod's many a time scarycat & idiotic censorship, you can easily attach the googlemap and flag any shop (best fishball noodle? car accessories shop with big Ferari signboard? dll indicators or tulips) just next to damn petshop without naming it.

No can do.... to the others not so comfortable with the language - the answer is NO WAY
Just put yourself in the shoe of the shop owner .... if one of yr workers had not served your customer properly and the said customer posts on a public forum to blast your shop and name you as well for the disservice, how would it be? Especially if it was not you or your shop's fault? Furthermore, the issue may be resolved eventually (this case was resolved satisfactorily) but this thread remains available and google-able forever. Think of the bad publicity which remains and anyone googling your shop name will find this complaint.
And by the way, if there are a number of petshops in the same area, your GPS reading could be pointed at the WRONG shop ... so how? Very dangerous idea, my friend
