Oh well, as long as I don't see my fortunes changing for the better, there's nothing much I can do anything except to be on the lookout or stick to reasonably priced places to eat out and cook at home more often, primarily for the sake of hygiene, own health and prudent expenditure.
OK, me going off to Tmn Medan, still have RM6-7 lunch for TWO pax.

Within PJ, there is a price difference for a glass of barley (hot)....beat that or not ?

SS11 coffeeshop charges RM1.20 while SS14 coffeeshop charges RM1.50....a whopping 30 cents for the same home-made barley !!!

Who is at fault ? ....coffeeshop owners or the govt authority ?

I always have a dirty feeling if its most Chinese run coffeeshops, Gahmen WON'T DO A DAMN thing about any rising prices. Its entirely up to you as customers to use your own wisdom whether to buy "expensive" drinks or not.
Sorry if my comment may be controversial, just among numerous dirty feelings I have concerning issues like this.

I think it was abt 1.80 a year ago...a beverage drink costs more 2.00 in a kopithiam is just not acceptable.

I think the blunt truth is most people from all walks of life are tolerating it all the time, accepting whatever charges as normal and nothing to loose sleep about.
I can't recall any recent nationwide boycott, neither any nationwide disgust and doing anything significant about it. Life goes on as normal here in this land and profits are raked in every second of the day where I'm cocksure every second someone orders and pay for some drink to down along with the meal.
Only a nationwide boycott or refusal to order drinks simply because of rediculous prices may do something, otherwise at the rate this is going on, NOTHING is gonna change. Willing seller, willing buyer applies. Its a pop culture here that any meal would be accompanied with some liquid. You don't request, they ask what you'd like to drink, the bill is entirely yours, obviously.
How many of you people would like to turn over a new leaf, stop ordering any drinks, bring your own or drink later on? Yes, you MUST develop this entirely on your own, you'd get free encouragement from me. You save $$ eventhough how small but sure save! that I guarantee.
No need to harp or hope on gahmen to help. The onus is on YOU to refuse ordering such "pricy" drinks and save thereon.

So the Chinese are the culprit where majority coffeeshops is being run by them... they run the show... they control the price... the minority bunch of coffeeshops/mamak run by other race is just following suit... bunch of bloodsucking, greedy Chinese coffeeshops owners!!! we have ourself to blame...

...don't need to make a race issue on everything...

    Just to share....

Perhaps observe closely and compare the quality/prices of owner-run stalls and outsourced (foreigners) stalls....

Since prices are almost similar - food type wise - IMHO, owner-run stalls are a better option....vis-a-vis cooking/preparation processes...etc.

If the kopitiam you patronise where the food quality served by the owner-run stall is not up to your standards, perhaps go somewhere else...

We do have a choice, I believe...

    Cheers!

Yes, we do, Fonzie. I go by that skool of thought. Eg, I went once to the Ipoh Chicken restaurant (halal) in USJ9 and decided, never again. The food that sucked. You won't find me going there again.

Ipoh Chicken? As far as I know, the famed chicken shops dont go by the name of Ipoh Chciken but by thier names from Lou Wong or Onn Kee or "Hotel Excelsior" ( can't remember the name" ). So when you are expecting the real chicks, you would be ripped of with the fang pang ( pirated version). What's more your Hor Fun is done by frogreigners who may be clueless about the timing to immerse it.
BTW, all these stores are still being run by the original bosses or their offsprings in the store while dishes done by foreigners.

The famous one in Ipoh is located at Cowan Street (Jalan Raja Ekram)
    http://www.j2kfm.com/cowan-street-ayam-tauge-ipoh/
Been here many times and its possibly the best at Ipoh, although I'm sure there's some others approximately in quality and taste.
Last time was 24th December. Once a while OK, otherwise its SUPER RICH (not in $$) for your health. An apparent method, is they constantly boil pairs of chicken into the broth, (then dip the boiled chicken into cold water, before hanging it ready for chop chop) thus making the broth super rich and concentrated soup stock, I suppose this isn't done exactly the same here and your own soup isn't from dozens of whole chicken.
Its NOT cheap you know, last was like RM20 something for 2pax, but people pay because its unique and legendary.
