I think that lots of locals (not very wealthy or middle) are forced to save money when travelling most of the time, simply because "its more expensive out there in the West or Japan".
I'm sure many would cringe when buying McD Big Mac equivalent to RM35 or something like that, don't even mention fine dining in one of those common restaurants, unlike Wong Kei at London maybe lor!

I am not talking about student or people who travel for business. It make snese to reduce any cost if your are a self-sponsored student or running your own business when travel abroad..

I am talking about people who travel for holidays..

I think wealthy or poor is relative. If someone is poor when travel abroad due to the weak ringgit, then why still travel to these "expensive places" for holidays ??... and travel like a refugee ??

I have joint company's annual incentive trips before, most were trips invited by other departments. I have rejected more invitations than joining them simply because I think it is a blardy torture... !! These holidays trips were organized by so-called reputable and established tour agencies like Bxxtead Travel, Mxxflower Tour, not those cheapskate apanama agency..

Here are some standard features of these popular Malaysian holidays tour:

- Night flight (12-1am) or early morning flight (5-6am) is the standard norm. Flight with departure time around this hour is cheaper and can save one night accommodation for the tour operator. Bear in mind, if the flight is 5am, you have to be in the airport before 3am and this means you whole night is screwed without sleep. If you are not able to rest in the plane, you are screwed further once you reach the destination.

- Twin-sharing room. You wanna share a room with stranger?

- Endless visit to shopping mall, bazaars or don-know-what local souvenir shops... !!

They are people who travel with the thrill to save money… staying at home no chance to save money... !!

Once a while I will buy some stuff costing more than the cash I carry, so I use my credit card. And as always, something stupid will happen especially if I use my Amex card.... the cashier will always say "no approval code from the issuing bank" simply because they do not want to lose the 6% Amex charges them for the transaction. So, I am held up at the counter.

Now there's a problem between me, my credit card, the retailer (cashier) and my bank... do I keep the rest of the customers behind me waiting while I handle the cashier and my own banker?

Actually you seem rather confused. On one hand you are saying we should try to understand other people's problem (ie other drivers should understand the lady in parking lot), while now you are saying we should not focus on our own problem only.

The lady in the parking lot was causing all the troubles to others because she was only focusing on her own problem.

I think our supermarkets should revert common queue clearing system. 1 single queue and move to the next available counter. The worst Queue clearing I have seen in at Aeon (Jusco) department store. They have counters scattered all over their store but most of them are not open.

First of all, the illusion that you are holding up the service line does not even exist in the first place, those customers behind you are waiting for the store cashier to serve them, not you. So how can you as a customer prevent the store to serve their customers? Only confused people think you are the cause of the problem and holding up the line. You, as a customer can have all the time to deal with the cashier and it is not your duty to make sure the store manage to serve all customers quickly and happily (like send another staff to serve the rest of the customers).

One may choose to blame you is simply because they don't care about you, they think you should give up your rights in order to make them more convenience.

The confused part is, the lady is not the cause of all the troubles in that parking lot, it is the parking management system that cause all the troubles. The lady in the parking exit just trying to handle her case with the parking management properly and as a car park user she have all the rights to do so. It is the parking system flaw that causing the jam (no alternate exit). Drivers behind her choose to blame her is just because they don't care about her rights, they just want her to sacrifice her rights for their convenience. So, it is not the lady don't care about the drivers behind her (not her duty to do so), it is those driver behind her don't care about her rights.

We simply have no rights to ask someone to sacrifice themself for our benefit, right?

The issue is, as you mentioned, the parking system problem, there is absolutely nothing other driver can do to help her. Sure the other driver can sympathies with her predicament, but there is simply no reason for them to be in that situation. If the lady can just move aside, let the others pass while she deal with the parking personnel individually, there will be no issue whatsoever.

This is different with the Cashier issue, if there is a long queue because of whatever reason, then people behind can just move to other cashier if they feel like it. If there is no other Cashier, then they can complain to the shop owner or manager. There is an alternative, there is something they can do. You can take your sweet time dealing with the cashier while others move on with their life.

This discussion from you reminded me of a tourist from China who was toasting bread for everybody in the tour group recently at Boulevard Hotel buffet spread....while the rest of us have to wait in line to toast our one slice....

It is amazing to read your "logic"...

I am very worried if such “logic” applies to A&E service in hospital especially private hospital. People with such “logic” will argue/debate/defend that they have their “right” since they pay for the private healthcare service and hold up others who in dire needs of immediate A&E service…

I do agree the parking case is abit extreme, but the logic is still the same. With the cashier case, if there is no other cashier or staff in the store, what can the rest of the customers do to complete the transaction? Yes, wait! Either you choose to forget about the transaction, put back the goods and leave, the only option left is wait. Unfortunately the car park case, those drivers don't have option to cancel the deal, they are only left with one option, which is wait. Sometime life does not give us much option, like caught in a traffic jam, what to do? blame the one infront of you don't want to give way?

To be honest, we all don't know actually why the lady in parking exit behave that way, that's why we have no clue how to judge her behaviour. However in that case we can see that most drivers behind her only focus on their own problem, so much so that dare to ask her to give up her rights just to make their life easier.

I think its the same... my problem with my credit card should be my problem and solved in my own convenience - not an inconvenience to the others waiting in line behind me, that should be socially right way to behave.

Toasting bread was therefore an unacceptable way to behave socially - you should just toast for yourself and let the others have their turn...

To me, they are the same, behaving the proper way in public....
