Every Birth Begins With Labour Pains
the browny stuff is deep fried prawns. a bit difficult to describe the taste but it's similar to fishball noodles except the soup is more yellowish. so far, only find this in tengkera, mcca.

Foe me, the best CurryMee in Ipoh located at Ipoh New Town, 45 degree opposite Police Station ( Chuan Fong Curry ). The taste a bit sour but i like their " Siew Yoke " plus their Curry Source. Furthermore, the best Wanton mee and Mee Soup located at Buntong New Village , especially the mee soup, you have to wait more than one hour.
Being a native of Melaka, I will have to admit that, in all fairness, one cannot compare Penang food to Melaka. Penang is a gastronomical adventure....Melaka does have some 'food' that's unique to it...regretfully, much of the good hawkers have 'moved on'...and lots of 'new stuff' there now.
Here are a few, I remember from my childhood, previous frequent visits, though haven't been there of late.
Melaka Wan Tan Mee
Quote: "It is different from the central and northern versions where they omit dark soya sauce but mix chilli sauce in the noodles."...Also lots of lard
BTW, this was my favourite...anyone here? -know where can get in KL/PJ? ....my favourite stall was in the coffee shop opposite REX cinema....don't see Auntie there last time
[See link for photos...too big to post here]
Melaka Style CKT
Different in the sense, its darker...fried with lots of lard and 'chee yok char'and served with sweet [plum?] sauce.
Mee Rebus and Rojak
This one is unique to this stall....Very different, must try too appreciate.
Location in Ujong Pasir in a old Chinese coffeeshop opposite the junction to the Portuguese Village [we used to call it Settlement in those days]. This pushcart stall was started by his father and was still around when last there. If you go, try the 'toufu and fishcake' stall too....served with a great chilli sauce...also nasi lemak there famous. [Don't bother going after 3pm...all done]
Saturday Ice Kachang
Famous hang out for students in the old days...Located in Banda Hilir, opposite Chinese temple....good ABC,...used to make their own ice-cream before. CKT stall there good.
More in this Blog....other than the Beef Noodle, and Pork Satay, Oh-chien, Satay Celup, rest new to mee...HERE
BTW, Melaka famous for 'Putu Piring' and the guy in USJ2 is damn close to what I tasted as a kid![]()
One thing about Penang and Melaka foods that I give a plus point is.... damn cheap! They still selling RM3~3.50 per bowl![]()
I say man...must have missed that he said he's from the Fort too
Ah..how I miss those days before they developed that area around the Padang...it was such a serene spot. Spent a lot of my childhood there...studied at BHES, then MHS...hang out in the Padang area after school before going home.
Those food stalls at the Esplanade, watch cricket at the Malacca Club padang....trail the Convent girls up St Paul's Hill for a 'History' [sometimes Geography] lesson
Food wise, my memories of that area was the Satay Celop pushcart under the Big tree...good stuff and cheap...best part, can just have bread and timun...Dip-Dip.![]()
