    I was here: http://ipohchai.com/ipoh-famous-laksa.php

I also had a serious observation of how the famous Ipoh Hor Fun, especially the soup is prepared. WOW! All I'll say this isn't something you eat everyday or every other day.
The soup is rich rich SUPER DUPER RICH and those with the usual high BP, high Choles or other complications. DON'T EAT THIS too often!.
I noticed every 10minutes, pair by pair of whole chicken is boiled in the same soup base pot continously till the shop close.. so the soup is really really thick thick thick, and THATS the unique taste! I'm guessing this cannot be duplicated at home unless you've 40 chickens to boil continuously and have the Ipoh hor fun. Oh well, better to eat there, enjoy it and done, ONCE A BLUE MOON!.. My health is more important.

BTW, the boss himself had a heart bypass not too long ago..and doesn't look well! Sad!

About Penang n Melaka...Always known the baba nyonya food have some notable differences. Melaka and Penang Nyonya people are NOT the same in some ways, thus do or approach some things differently.
That Ipoh Hor Fun fella have had been having weak heart for the last 20 years. Could be due to lack of exercise and probably due to stock market losses.
As for the food, dun think he is eating his own Ipoh hor fun like many chefs or owners. Heck, I stayed away from eating turkey since I was doing about 100's numbers all by myself during Christmas for years in Ipoh then. Just took once in USA as I wanna to see how it taste since it was prep by my boss. BTW, the Ipoh Hor Fun wifey is quite skinny and fit. But seriously, I have to keep him credits for the best Hor Fun noodles.

As for America, might as well shut up shop as the McD cardboard burger is everywhere. Now that would be a good thing.

I look forward to a good French meal, such a pity the best French restaurant in Asia sold out, no wonder i have no interest in eating in KL anymore.
Unique or not, I could do the following every day for the rest of my life.
Breakfast : Cheese & onion roti together with pork currymee and teh tarik.
Lunch : Kambeng Power Gam with Chinese tea.
Dinner : Foie Gras and Confit de Canard, a decent French red and a bottle of Krug but where??
Supper : English sausages, baked beans, black pudding with fried bread at home with a pint of cider.
Somehow i think the above would shorten my life. I would cease to be unique
Sometimes food can be healthy, yet tasty - Howzat for these?
Garden Salad drizzled with infused olive oil, topped with goat cheese with slices of red green yellow roasted bellpeppers?
ABC of Minnestronne soup with stock of chicken, beef and pork stocks?
Tuna fish encrusted with black and white sesame seeds?
Chicked breast confit with Orangie glazed sauce and hints of citrus and rosemary.
Ribs of beef, lamb or pork slow baked with glazings with bubdle of rosemary, thyme, or oreganon.

Last year I posted with pictures the top 10 best curry mee in Penang and Butterworth district and most of them has curdled blood as liao. Lorong Seratus Tahun is one good place. So is Pulau Tikus. That coffeeshop mentioned opposite Belissa Row which is supposed to hv good kuay chap (Patrick the Moderator like it I remember he mentioned) also has good curry me... Same stallholder summore!

Gimme me a PM if you are coming this way, can take you around to some of the curry mee stalls and savor them myself as well. If I am in Penang as I now spend half my time in Jakarta.

Wawawaah! Rotibabi, something new that I never heard of, look like Penang do have some unique foods after all and this New Cathay Coffee Shop is a must visit next time.

Yeah, Penang famous for its foods, there must be a reason for it, too bad last time I only knew Gurney Drive and Sunway Hotel.

p/s: I found the picture of Rotibabi here http://www.petertan.com/blog/2009/11...ous-roti-babi/

Penang unique food or New Cathay unique food? If the banana pancake can't even find at anywhere else in Penang then it is unique to New Cathay only.

There are other places in Penang that do sells this type of banana pancake (only a handful) but this stall in New Cathay coffee shop taste better and is more popular with the locals.

In case we are taking about different pancakes.

This is the stall that started it way back in the 90s'. Beach Street’s aunty selling banana pancakes with raisin and lots of toasted sesame seeds. It has now moved inside a little coffee shop, Hwa Pin kopitiam along Church Street.
A few doors away from Pinang Peranakan Mansion.

Thought you would never ask. You can find banana pancakes (and other varieties like peanut, kaya, etc) at Padang Brown where the charkeowtiau (ckt) is lips-smacking good too. My dad used to take us there. Love the ckt there. The taste has not deteriorated, though they have taken off Chinese sausages. Don't know why...maybe to save cost?

Ya Padang Brown ! Foods there are very reasonable priced. The CKT is very good there & enjoyed the lok-lok there too. Unlike the always congested lok-lok in P Tikus market, Padang Brown is much more spaceous & a better place for lok-lok
