Parents with Children getting PMR Results..Please share your joy & thoughts..

Err Buddies...Orchi wishes to share the following thoughts with the other parents...
who might have childrens receiving their PMR results this morning at their respective schools in Subang Jaya/USJ...

Orchi was present at the school...when little Orchi got the exam result slip...
He was overjoyed after learning that he had achieved better than expected results for passing his PMR exam...

He managed to achieve all 7 compulsory subjects with A(s)...
whilst in the additional subject of "Bahasa Cina"...he managed a B...

By the midst of the event today...the Principal announced that all students...
scoring straight A(s) results were asked to get on stage n stay back for photo session...
(there were like over 100 of them students with 7A(s)...)

At the end of that announcement...
Orchi can feel a bit of disappointment from Little Orchi...
who was earlier feeling quite jubilant with his good result before the announcement was made...

Hey this made Orchi feeling a little disappointed too to say the least...
Besides the school giving acknowledgement to those majority students whom had scored 7A(s) in the compulsory subjects...
n those other few with additional 1A for the additional subjects like Bahasa Agama or Cina...
why has the school forgotten to appreciate those many...
that were courageous enough to tackle the extra subjects in the same examination...?

In terms of academic examination results...
a student who scored 7A(s) + 1B or 1C...or even if the student failed in the extra subject...
the student should also be appreciated by the school for the courageous efforts of that particular student...

Does any other parents agree with Orchi's thoughts on this particular issue...?
Or is it just Orchi feeling this way...

Like what the heck...the school should be more thoughtful to get these students on stage as a form of encouragement as well...
for the students to share their joy together with the rest of the many other
students with 7A(s)...or even 8A(s)...as appreciation for their extra courageous attempts...no?

Me son too scored 7A's - didn't take the extra subject...

Was there at the school hall & Astro did filmed all the students, whether 7A's or otherwise for their channel.

Coming back to your "feelings" - yes, the school ought to invite all students with or without the 7A's to go on stage.

Maybe you want to get into the school's PIBG to make a stand, not on this matter alone. I'll support you, buddy.

Err...thanks Buddy for your compliments...n congrats to you n yours too...

Yes...daughter LST managed 7A(s) as well in all the compulsory subjects...
n she did well with her school exams scoring top 5 of all the Form 3 students...at the school...

Oh btw...the youngest little Orchi scored straight 7A(s)...
in his UPSR examination...

Orchi is damn proud of the Little Orchis...
n good academic results asides...
Orchi prays they would one day become good persons...
which is more important in Orchi's buku tiga lima(555)...

PIBG???...Nah...
Orchi would be considering to be elected as a member of Parliament...
Now...that's more like it...

methink the principal ought to say "those with 7A's and above" not "straight A(s)"

You are not alone, I believe the students are really hard hit by the way things go. Life for minority students are tough. This is the first psychology challenge the minority students have to go through, many decided not to face the same challenge in SPM. One student I known got straight 8As in PMR, in order to maintain straight A record she drop Chinese in SPM and aiming for JPA scholarship. She managed to get straight As in SPM,she is really an outstanding girl, academic, co-co, sports! but still no scholarship!!!

Just curious, would you encourage your son to take Chinese in SPM knowing that he has little chance(2%) to get A?

as a parent Orchi hopes to encourage little Orchis to be as courageous...
to tackle the challenges that may lie ahead...

Although the inevitable decision would be their own...
Orchi hopes to offer the same advise n encouragement again...
Orchi would still stress that at the least they would try...
n would know for certain that they would have done their best...
irrespective of the outcome from the exams...

IF they would choose not to take up the extra subject of Bahasa Cina...
or any other subjects that may matter...in the coming exams...
they would never know for sure...

Err Buddy Raikonen...Orchi thinks not the case...

This particular Sekolah Menengah is better known for being one of the better schools in town...
many thanks to the stronger commitment n dedication of the teaching staffs there...to begin with.

When we were young...there was not any "tuition centres" offering...
"tickets" or enticement of scoring more A(s) for primary school standard 5 exam...
n the LCE/MCE/GCE/ or the Ordinary or Advance level Secondary school examinations...
in those early times...

We were mostly on our own efforts n hard studies...
to have scored what we got in those early days...

Psssssst...Orchi managed many "F(s)" in those subjects back then...

Yeah, I too think that the standards were lowered as my son said many of his friends who couldn't even score A's during school exams for the last 3 years BUT managed to score A's at this year's PMR!

Not knocking any parents joy, but....

True in the UK, many teachers have complained (2 UK teachers in my family, both now employed by private schools as they wanted to maintain their own standards).

The American way, fill children with huge amounts of self confidence. Many times i have seen that self confidence collapse at the first hurdle.

My daughter also achieved 7As & 1B.
She hardly studied at all and was very laid back and relaxed.
Perhaps the innner confidence and a little bit of street smartness got her there.

However I 100% agree with Raikonen that the standard is near or at bottom.

Yup, this is very true!
Those days, decades ago standards are higher than today.

Be it BM, English or Maths, if you have been marking these papers for the pass decade, it is SO obvious that standards are very very low!

orchipalar - if apply the same standard when you get 'F' today I'm sure 80% will fail these 3 major PMR papers.

Most importantly is for us as parents to make sure that the children are taught the RIGHT ATTITUDE to succeed i.e. hardwork, discipline, perseverence, integrity, honesty etc ....

As we all know from our own experience in working life, whatever we learn in schools and universities will be out-of-date or not directly relevant in our daily working lives except for the CORE BASICS ... but if they do not have the RIGHT ATTITUDE from young, it will be tough for them later on to re-learn and improve.

One of the regular complains about fresh graduates is that they don't have this self-improving attitude and expect everything ON THE PLATE ....

So while it is good that the kids are doing well, and as parents we should be happy for them, bear in mind that the RIGHT VALUES and ATTITUDE are being cultivated ... the value is IMMEASURABLE !!

Jenny, what i understand is that you have to get all 9 A+ in order to get scholarship. Am i right ?
