1977 Ipoh Chicken Rice, USJ 9

I was there recently. Two words. No kick. Even the soup tasted somewhat bland.

They have a urmm..."no-holds-barred" (hahaha) branch in SS15 where the food is certainly better, IMHO.

Was there sometime ago. I found the taste lacking. Could it be because it's a halal restaurant?

It has been a while since I went to the SS15 outlet, especially after I've developed a loving bond with Restaurant Kah Heong @ SS14 , When ordering pork dishes here, its so much tastier & serves bigger portion than Ipoh Chicken rice outlets.

I am one of those behind this branding "1977 chicken rice" but trust me it is halal (from International halal)what you expect? It caters mainly for multi racial.

trust me the chicken money is in the halal market ~ affluent malays are prep to pay RM30+++ for 2 pax meal of a plate of chicken, vege, soup and 2 drinks.
My first meal there chicken rice shop & also recently 1977, with a buddy was also the last!

I am certainly NOT going anymore. I find the simple hailam chicken rice stall fella in usj9 coffee shop a helluva lot better, tastier and of course value for money. OR for less than Rm30 I can have the WHOLE siew chicken, tasty soup, platter of blanched beansprouts, in my old fave, at seapark, nearby market. This old lady had been selling taking over from her departed hubby, donkey years ago!

Nah! designer styled chicken rice shop is no-value-4-$ for me...i rather pay rm12.00 for a glass of hops, barley and malt X a 10 glasses pls.

But then I dont go about sitting & lepaking at an aircon chicken rice shop!

We went there and had the chicken rice and taugeh. Rice was okay, taugeh so-so and the chicken could have been better. But the soup was crap Won't be going there again.

Went once only and stopped going there after they charged RM35 for asam talapia dish, and also the taste of food was not good. As someone mentioned, the SS15 outlet tasted better and i still frequent there on and off. The price for asam talapia also more reasonable there (about RM22 to RM25 if not mistaken). Btw, there are outlets in USJ selling the same asam talapia for RM10 (maybe size slightly smaller) and to charge RM35 for this fish is definitely too much.

Lato Tupai - Is it the well known Hoe Fong Chicken Rice directly opposite Sea Park wet market? The chicken are deep fried in front of your eyes and mixing their chilli and ginger with dark soya sauce - BEST D

yup...and the young boss Ah Seng (maybe son?) also speaks Hokkien
I was a ss1 & ss2 boy...being a customer for donkey years...their original stall was in paramount garden main road, then the old fella passed on. Since taking over and for years (at least 15?)the old lady stooped over the frying pan until she is today bent double!

Its the 2nd block in Jln 21/17 (got shell station by main orad to sect 19)...and end of road is sea park wet market.
the Hasan Rojak outside the chup-hoi tiam, is also there for 2 generations.

The Ipoh sar hor fun (directly opp the market) is also good BUT the old man boss very lansi and got 1 time years ago ah, i chewed him up nicely when he kinda insulted/teased me "lay kum yeh chor mi yeh? mai sai chor!" It caught me in the wrong mood and being hungry i taruh him nice "TNS, lay ku sek lay keh fun , mmmm sai ching, ah? Free ah? TNSeng!" somthin along that line lah...

I like paramount & sea park also older ss2 old style food. Subang jaya cant match by a mile!
