    Reduced Road Tax

    Malaysian motorists pay the highest road tax rates in the world? Is that true? I would think so too. Anyway, I wanna ask you guys here coz I am trying to do something stupid again but I can't really afford to be this stupid unless I find a way to be stupid again.

    There is a 16 year old Mercedes CL500 Brabus around for sale.... yes, thats a 5000 cc V8 fella. The road tax is like MYR11,300 per year - no wonder the car is going dirt cheap lah...

    Someone told me there is a 20 year old thing where you can get discounted road tax - paying on 20% of the total road tax which I know exist because I am paying 20% road tax on my 1974 BMW 3.0CSI and 1984 BMW 635CSI.

    But my buddy told me considerations of 50% discount boleh dapat for 15 year old car, true or not? If so, how to go about it? And siapa boleh buat?

    I don't think so lah. Most of my cars are more than 15 years old but I have always paid in full. It is the 25-year old car like your BMW that qualifies. Actually I am waiting for the Mercedes 320 SEL to be 25 year old before buying it. Cheap and comfortable.

    MyEG website, enter the insurance policy number and the figure of RM20 per year appears on the screen.

    I doubt i would have the cheek to ask for discount

    Was just told by the salesman selling the CL500 he can arrange for reduction of road tax for the 5000 cc for a small fee.... wahlau-eh Malaysia Boleh!

    There are only so many ways you can get a reduction in the road tax. One other method is to "change" the engine to a smaller cc. Now as you know this "transformation" can be done on the car or on the registration card
