My family's favourite now is in Puchong called Yuen Garden. Good value for money.

Tried the EMPIRE GALLERY hotel - Di Wei (non-halal) recently, nice ambience, food - ok - price - hotel rate - good value (?) - I still go to the roadside one in USJ21 (Hoong Loong - or something like that)

There is also the Tai Thong (Imperial whatever) in SS17 the one next to Balai Polis. Tai Thong food are like Chinese McD - fairly consistent not much surprises .... (except the BILL !!)

Yes, I have been looking for good dim sum in SJ/USJ more than one decade, and I have to conclude that I couldn’t find a single one.

But I like dim sum and I mean only NON-HALAL dim sum, and I am the laziest person in SJ/USJ. If I have to drive more than 20 minutes for food, I will erase the place from my memory..

I left with only one choice although it is not really a good choice – the one next to the SS18 police station as currymee mentioned.

IMO, Tai Thong dim sum is best during 10.30 am to 12 noon. After 12 noon, you don’t feel like you are paying premium for a quiet dining time.

I like their service – since their old premise in Taipan until they shifted to the present place about five years ago, their service level is fairly consistent. They manage to have the better lot of foreign staff and the supervisors are seasoned, i.e customer-responsive.

I particularly like their “chu chong fang ‘ (pig intestine noddle)

But one thing to watch up – do check and recheck the bills and the items shown on the bills… I encountered few times they overcharged me, intentional or error I don’t know..

And lastly, be extreme alert with the parking attendant who collect parking fee from you.. Last Sunday, she gave me a parking ticket which shown I entered the car park at midnight and parked for 11 hours .. (she pocketed the parking fee and gave me a receipt left by others the nite before) :

Normally I rate a dim-sum restaurant based on their abilities to prepare the basics - if they cannot do a decent job on all these items, might as well close shop

    My "basics" are:

    1) Siew mai
    2) Har gao
    3) Siew pao
    4) Foong chow (chicken feet)
    5) Lor mai gai

For Empire Gallery Di Wei - all are ok (acceptable) esp Foong Chow (chicken feet) - bloody out of this world - so soft and succlent until I almost eat the bones !! My gripe is that VALUE wise (price), those roadside one esp Hoong Foong at USJ21 still give BEST BANGS for The BUCKS !!

Hock Hin .... try already .... har-gow not so good (skin peel off too easily - poor QC) .... but if stuck in SS/6 during infamous Lick Hung traffic jam and got a craving, maybe ....

Hong Kee .... food comparable to Hoong Foong but worst service - (Hoong Foong is already gila sometimes).... not worth the hassle for same price ....
