YB Hannah Yeoh - Registration for Anak Malaysia, rejected

Under birth Certificate - Bangsa Column, JPN rejected YB Hannah & hubby's application to have their baby registered as "Anak Malaysia" instead of Cina / India.

Congrats to YB Hannah Yeoh & Rama for arrival of baby Shay Adora Ram.

I think its in the race column and not the nationality. The nationality should be still Malaysian. When we are overseas only then can we call ourselves Malaysian because other countries do not recognise us as Malay/Chinese/Indian Malaysian!!

I wonder why the father is a ashamed of his race that child should be registered as an Indian just like many other children of mixed marriages, they follow the father's race and obviously she is a Malayisan.

You don't get the point - consider it as a protest statement against racial discriminations.

A lot of you may not know this but Indonesian and Thai citizens of Chinese descent do not declare they are Chinese. I have met young Indonesians and Thais and when I asked about their race, they proudly tell me they are either Indonesian or Thai. Only when I insist they tell me about their ancestral lineage do they confess that they are of Chinese origin.

It is not necessary to bring and mixed politics to this innocent child, just state her race accordingly. Just because Hannah is a politician she should not create a controversy and unnecssarily allow the poor child be ridiculed.
This is my take of this issue.

    Off-topic

You are right of course, but do you know how the Chinese in Indonesian suffered during this most trying period.

Do you want it to happen in Malaysia?

I think that she is walking the talk and not politising anything. Because the child is mixed would the child be classified a chindian? Its time we do away with the race. We would already know from the name and the religion. I think that is enough already.

I think the core of the issue is – there is still a need to write down your race in the NRD form when apply for a birth cert/identity card..

If you can’t change the requirement (I believe not at this moment), then write down your race. For mixed parentage, it is a norm to follow the race of the biological father.

The child's father is an Indian, then the child is an Indian... Period

To fight and get the race column removed in the official government forms (not just NRD) is a separate story....

How can you conclude that the father is ashamed of his race as Indian based on this???!!!

bcuz they act out of norm and put the child as Chinese (temporary)?

If a politician doesn't step up to the plate and take a stand, who will?

I think what Hannah did was to basically make a stand that race should not be a factor in our life which means everyone is an Anak Malaysia and whether its scholarship, or house purchase discount, or Lesen Kelas F etc, everyone is equal before the law.

What is so wrong in that? Isn't that what we are all fighting for?
