I do have a 3G phone, because it's free as i refuse to pay for one.
But, no apps, never turned on the wifi, never checked my location, refuse to do email on a silly little screen etc.
My old SonyE was a lot better, easier to use, smaller, lighter etc. But now everyone seems to want larger heavier clumsier gizmo's and nobody seems to have a pocket large enough to put them in.
This is progress![]()
But O, how bitter a thing it is to look into happiness through another man's eyes.
William Shakespeare
You said it man... I was given one 3G phone as a present. My complaint is, I had to wrack up my phone bill using the 3G features 'accidentally', and now I ask myself, "Why do I need a 3G phone anyway?" Do I need to respond to facebook or twitter? Do I need to respond to email on-the-fly, or do I need to show my location using GPS? I can do away with all these black-holes in the time-space spectrum. Why get myself busy with all these, and then pay the phone companies to make them fat? Of course unless I have lotz of $$spare$$ to throw around...Originally Posted by Hiliary

Tell me, does the epad or the likes offer me these? Or, am I on the wrong side of the universe?![]()

Yup, sometimes I also think I am not staying in the same universe…![]()
I often tell my friends, colleagues and counterparts – call me if you need to talk to me. Don’t text or email me because I won’t reply. The rationale is if you have to buzz me, it must be an urgent matter and to handle urgent matter, logically you have to call me..
Not sure how long I can hold on to my “stubbornness"” of refusing to use 3G phone..

Don't mind I digress a bit of the original topic..
I usually take breakfast in those coffee shop which “unfortunately” comes with free WiFi..
I obseved many of the single customer occupy a table which is for 4 pax...for the convenience to put the laptop on a bigger table, to put the laptop bag on another chair, put the writing notes/other materials on another chair, etc.
Of course, this is their choice and freedom but the question I would like to ask is – the “business loss” due to this type of customers ( which in my opinion, easily 40-50% of the overall customers at any one time) must have been pre-calculated before and factored into the price !!!
My point is – I think those who just go there for a quick breakfast is actually subsidizing these guys…![]()
Cheers
Ps. Hilary,... I think Dockers Khakis pants (the one with 2 big hidden pockets and one small hidden pocket) is a good solution to put hand phone, car keys, parking chip coin, etc. and no worry of these items dropped once you zipped the pockets. There are business and casual khakis, I just like them...

Well, then there are those of us who find phone calls disruptive and annoying. I'd rather receive email or text which I can reply to in my own time.
Push email with Gmail is great.
If one is going to use a smartphone to it's intended potential, you are better off with a data plan.
Anyway we are digressing from tablets. My one comment is so far from my experience with the iPAd is that it's a good "coffee table" or "waiting room" device for quick browsing, reading, entertainment etc. When travelling e.g. for conferences, a notebook PC still has major advantages over a tablet PC e.g. can plugin to a hotel room's lan for internet access, editing and creating content e.g. presentations etc.
100% agree ... I found the iPad to be almost "useless" except for looking trendyOriginally Posted by palmdoc

I have been using the Galaxy Tab (which almost everyone calls it an IPad...) for the last 2 months and all I can say is that it is phenomenal. Once the 10.1 Tab hits our shore over the next few days, this is on top of my shopping list.
Credit to Apple for reinventing the tablet but...due to their arrogance, the large majority of the masses will not change the way they do things so that they can use the Apple.
almost all tablet PCs function are available in smartphones...Originally Posted by cupofcoffee

Well if one is earning USD then no problem to get one lah...
I won't mind spending RM300~RM400 to get an iPAD2...![]()

BTW there is an ongoing litigation by Apple. Apple is seeking a European Union ban on the importation and sales of all Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
Better in terms of functionality, and cost of ownership. Not having to keep upgrading with newer models in a short time span (which also boils down to cost of ownership), easy to upgrade with newer add-on functionality without having to re-invest in a newer model.![]()

Apple have more apps & games than Android, at this time.
Many ppl using CIMB itrade platform, uses iOS.
.... so wat functionality are you looking for?
Both of your choices are already outdated models, so fails your no-need-to-upgrade criteria.Originally Posted by ivanhow
Anyway, it's practically quaranteed whether you invest in iOS or Android Honeycomb (and soon to come Ice Cream)....you will be forced to upgrade the hardware every year or less to have the latest full features and functions on each platform.
Personally, I feel if you are a conformist, join-the-club type, go for Apple stuff. If you like to stray on the wild side once a while, try the Android.
Not so much on games, but more on business app. One that will drive corporate users to switch to tablets in place of laptops/notebooks.Originally Posted by DarkNite

Guess with cloud computing, apps need not be stored on the tablet, but run off the cloud computing servers, and all that's needed is a browser.
