    Tablet PC

Im thinking of getting Ipad2. Its still has its short comings.

Anyone here is jumping on the tablet bandwagon? Devices like Moto Xoom, Samsung Tab etc. Lets discuss!

    used the ipad... so far....

    - most frustrating part: NO flash flv/swf media playable in the safari web browser... all u see is a black hole/box in it...

    - Youtube is the only app that can play .flv files...(from Youtube site only)

    - neither can u download stuff and keep or run 'cept from App Stores...

    - third party movies run off a VLC app which for now has been yanked from App Stores...

    - No external storage - everything is thru the dreaded iTunes interface...

NOW will either get the Xoom or the Galaxy tab and see if it is better... Dell's Streak 7" taking a long time to get here....

Look no further than the Asus EEE Pad Transformer. Probably the best value Android Tablet available at the moment. Only RM1489 for 16G WiFi version, or RM1799 with the keyboard. Seems like first batch all sold out yesterday during the launch at Midvalley.

Oww... 300 bucks for the keyboard - well, I guess with the built in extra batteries in the keyboard docking allowing battery life to 16 hours is worth the extra $$$. Plus got the USB connection from the keyboard, now that wud be pretty awesome... (even more storage!) Summore running on Android 3.0...... nosebleed!!

Word has it that the next batch of Transformers coming in June may already have Honeycomb 3.1. loaded

And also watch out for the secretive new hybrid from Asus...to be announced tomorrow. Looks like it's a super thin smartphone which can be docked into a tablet....now that's what I'm really looking for! Currently I'm targetting to get a Motorola Defy (dump the stock Eclair and CM7 it, of course) plus an Asus Transformer but if this rumour turns out to be true, I will probably go for the hybrid instead lah.

Watch out for a "new" platform, HP webOS, and they will be launching their Touchpad in a big way starting June and possibly hit our shores later this year. WebOS has arguably the best UI for mobile devices today and the best multi-tasking experience. Yes and it has flash too.

The Touchpad, touted by HP to be `better than number one' in tablets, is coming to the market too late, IMHO. Maybe if it was launched to market at the beginning of the year, it'd have a fighting chance. As it is, the screen resolution of 1024x768 (same as the Ipad2) is already inferior to the 1280x800 of the currently available Honeycomb Tablets. It'll also likely be priced much higher than the Transformer and Ipad2. WebOS, historically, has been all promises and no delivery, so I'm not keeping my hopes up for a iOS or Honeycomb killer here. However, seeing is believing, so.....

There is still much room in the tablet market though yes Apple is far ahead at the moment. I have an iPad but share the frustrations on the limitations of the device such as lack of flash support and relatively poor multitasking.
Android has potential no doubt but I'd like to see more options not under Google's massive influence.
It's true HP must deliver the device globally and since it's all about apps, attract enough developers over, and make their app store truly global too. At least android apps are purchasable in Malaysia now.
The next 6 months should be interesting.

What is the point of these things anyway?
Is my life missing something if i do not have one?
But O, how bitter a thing it is to look into happiness through another man's eyes.

    Nope!

But for gadget geeks, they're apparently essential!

I don't think Apple actually addressed the multitasking performance via iOS upgrade....it simply popped in a Dual Core, and doubled the memory to 512mb. This would of course create the immediate `impression' that the Ipad2 is better at multitasking than the original Ipad. The next Ipad3, with higher hardware specs, would again be better than Ipad2 following this logic.

Honeycomb devices generally `multitask' better than the iOS counterparts but then again, they usually have double the ram of the Ipad2 to play with, and suffer poorer battery life as a result.

In any case, compact mobile devices like these cannot really multitask like your average desktop pc....unless they start adding in SSDs to enable virtual memory swapping or increase the ram further maybe to 4Gb+. But it means higher cost, and poorer battery life. There's no magic formula for success.

I don’t even have a 3G phone, let alone anything start with i..

I see people carry these gadgets while taking breakfast, lunch, walking, in the lift, near the pool, and even in the gym !!

sometimes I asked myself – what is wrong with me, everyone seems so busy and need to keep in touch instantly anytime and anywhere, and I am just too freaking free, don’t even want to reply email using a phone !!
