*Ptui* and *PTOOI* on Gurney Rd food!

...was on a lightning training trip to Penang and had the misfortune to be dragged along to Gurney road, as a friend wanna buy some really old fashioned biscuit in G Plaza..and pressed for time for a 9pm interview in Equatorial Hotel, we had to grab some food at the infamous Gurney Drive Food Crt.

I had the WORST ever food Penang hawker food at the Gurney Drive food court. *YUCK* tourist trap place. Expensive and cheh kai! *Ptui* ~ I saw the char kueh teaw guy cracked some 10-15eggs into the wok to mass-fry ala canteen style! And the rojak-pasembor ~ paid rm9 for a plate of *ptui* *ptui* ptooi* The 1person rm6 Oo-chien was a poor attempt to be an Ooo-chien! *Ptui* again!

The group on my left sharing my table was a big indonesian chinese family. The young adult group in front was from KL. The person and gfren next to my right, from thailand and there were so many equally blur kwai-lohs all Q up to buy the really low-class tourist substandard food.

This place will be DUH DOWNFALL of the famed penang char kueh teaw, oooo-chien, laksa and pasembor. Famous penang food here my ass!

my final *PTUI* to this place!

I should have convinced my fren to go further up to Tanjong Bungah or any one of those food court in Jelutong!

Tupai should have x change glances with is distant furry cousins at Gurney Drive where at the concrete slab facing the seas. Used to take guests to the tourist trap at the Drive. After dinner, I used to ask them to sit at the edge of the slab and say hello to the pussy sized mice having thier meals below it. There - this is the Gurney Drive Mickey Mouse attraction.

Lato, can you share the name of the foodcourt with me please....? Pm me if you wish and I will pass it up to the right party.

As for those who ahve not been to Penang since March 2008, I think its not fair to say its full of cat-sized mouse!

Food might be lousy at Tupai's outlet, but pls do be fair and not slam Penang's cleaniness! I even think Gurney Drive is now even cleaner than Asia Cafe in Subang Jaya!

...many yrs ago, they only have hawkers operating outta vans etc...now they r on permanent food crt share-metal tables style lah.

Really its so bad that many my penang friends and relatives are laughing at me. A vet to penang falling into a tourist trap, a cardinal sin of eating 'penang food' there! Damn even that kwai Loh friend in BFeringgi fell off his chair laughing at me in facebook!

Sure, I understand. Your comments and feedback is much appreciated. I must also say it isn't the first, we got a Singaporean fella hentam until every Hokkien word (or were they Teochew too) was used in a Singapore blog.... we will bring this up to the exco on tourism next week.

    But do come back yah...

Really don't understand this - why can't the hawkers themselves eject these errant hawkers that give the place a bad name...

If everyone quiet ~ sooner or later, people (even the veteran!) would avoid going to these places forever and ALL will suffer from the BAD REPUTATION...

    Haizzzzzzz!!!

They should have some sort of management to kick out these hawkers who serve sub-standard penang food to saveguard the reputation. Whenever I go back to penang, for hawkers food, i'll never go to gurney drive. This place is for the blur blur tourist only and with so many complains, what have the ministry of tourism done to rectify...!!!

I always go to that hawker centre outside the I-can't-remember-what-name-Hotel. (Summit?) Don't really know if that's the best, but it's good enough for me. Also love the belachan chicken along gurney drive, a short walk away from Gurney Hotel. It's a small wooden house along the road and there's only a few tables.

Have to be careful as the drinks there are premium price with lots & lots of ice. Suggest order can drinks BUT check price first!
Please check the hygiene of certain food stall also.
