Hi ungkb, i dont think you need to worry on the wifi spec of a notebook. Wifi spec is pretty standard on most of the notebook and I have not heard any negative remarks on it.

    What other requirements you have?

Get a USB Wireless Card. Look of brand out there...D-Link, Aztech, Prolink are good enough. Less than RM100. You can't use it for long time cos any new notebook will have built it. So after your Acer become redundant, your wireless card will be too.

    A few questions:

    1. Does your old notebook has a network card?

Having a network card already installed in your old notebook helps you to troubleshoot problems along the way when installing a wireless adapter.

    2. Does it has a CD drive or a USB port for attaching a portable CD drive?

Having a CD drive helps in installing drivers for your wireless adapter.

    3. What OS is it running on?

It helps in troubleshooting/guessing problems along the way..

Currently can this old notebook access the net...?

    Cheers!

A few months I picked up a TP-LINK one for some 20 odd bucks - on offer at Sec 14 Mall, I think normal is about 35. Have an old 12" notebook which works fine, but WIFI was erratic. Now wifey can 'Facebook' from bed - cheap solution
