Acid attack victim overcomes odds to score 9As in SPM

On Oct 24, 2009, Hui Linn and her mother Chong Swee Lin, 50, were asleep in their home at Jalan Tan Sri Teh Ewe
Lim when they were splashed with acid.
Chong, who was badly burnt, died about 10 hours later. Hui Linn sustained 60% burns on her face and upper torso. She had to undergo several operations to restore her sight.
Well, the Lions Club is now doing something to assist this admirably, determined girl by way of raising funds to assist her in her pursuit of further education. Read further below the Letter of Appeal that is self-explanatory.

Dear Sir,
Warmest greetings from Lions Club of Subang Jaya.
We write to appeal for your kind donation to help acid attack victim Ms Tan Hui Linn, for her continuing education, welfare and to lead a more normal life. Hui Linn is an unfortunate but intelligence, determine, perseverance, kind and forgiving young girl. We understand there is no way she can regain her ambitious and joyful past when she was active, did well in sports and excel in her studies, with many friends and living her life to the fullest every day.
As well covered in various newspapers, on 24th October 2009, Hui Linn and her mother were asleep in their home when they were splashed with acid by her father. Her mother died about 10 hours later. She suffered 60% burn on her face and her upper torso on the year that she supposed to take her SPM examination. She was forced to skip her SPM examination, as at that point, she was still warded in Intensive Care Unit and was told that she might be permanently blind. The following year, with little sight from the only one problematic eye, she persevered and studied very hard. She managed to obtain excellent results with 9A's (6 A+) and 1 B for her SPM examination despite her condition.
She has forgiven her father and he had apologized to her when she visited him in the prison.
Grace, our outstanding Leo (a Lions Program in secondary school), who is now a lecturer in Sunway University, has initiated and have contacted Hui Linn after knowing that she have interest to study accountancy. Our Grace manages to get her scholarship from Sunway University which covers tuition fees, examination fees and hostel accommodation. She still needs daily living allowances and medications,for a duration of 4 years. (Normally, students would graduate after 3 years, however, due to her eyesight condition, we would expect her to take lesser paper each semester to avoid over straining her only eye).
We appeal for public to assist her to enable her to obtain good education and enable her to stand on her own feet, live and serve the society.
