One of my visitors told me this is "wild spinach" aka Lamb's Quarter. It is growing wild in my garden. Anyone of you have this too? Is it really edible?

i have quite a fair bit of it growing in my papaya tree pot...i have been wondering whether it was some vege that i had sown and failed to grow earlier. now that you've given the name, i googled a gardener's newsletter and found that this weed is related to the lettuce family and edible...better have a good look and ensure it's the correct plant otherwise like Love Potion No. 9. the eaters end up kissing everything in sight....
I also have a lot of similar vegi under the mango tree.
What is the English name for this?
Lamb's Quarter
Good King Henry
wild spinach
Please google for the rest.
There is an old couple in my neighborhood who plants this vegetable. They told me it is edible but I still have my doubts. They told me it is called "Yin Choy"
Your soil is grayish black, I see. Is that the mulch you were talking about?Originally Posted by Naka
BTW, have you tried eating these vegetables?
Yes, there are some mulches around the " Han Choi " and we do eat pluck the leaves & eat them either make into soup or quick fry it.Originally Posted by venuspop
How do you make the "mulches"? Dry leaves and cut grass?
I dun make them, just buy them by the trailers from Soil n Soil.Originally Posted by venuspop
The seedlings (Han Choi) must have come from the mulches you bought then. They don't sell the seeds, I'm sure. I wonder how the wild spinach seedlings landed in my garden.![]()
Someone gave me 5 han choi plants early this year and we ate the han choi for a few months before winter set in. These are new plants from the seeds.
How do you know when to eat them? Is it like one month after planting or do you assess by looking at the height of the plant?
When there are enough young leaves for the two of us, OH would pluck them for food.Originally Posted by venuspop
When you mow the lawn, what do you do with the cut grass?
These cut grass were spread around the flowers as cover.Originally Posted by venuspop
