I invited a usj.com.my forumer to dinner, at the SJ one&only famous MSG Free and the self-proclaimed 'infamous & mean' chef Alwin's restaurant, last nite.
As per my previous 4 visits, my choice is 'Surprise Ala Carte' meaning, that whatever this-not-so-mean-(actually very chatty & friendly)-chef dish out, I will eat it. Anything except animal 'internal & spare parts', half cooked chicken, exotic/wild meat
anyway...We had the starter that looks like a 'giant popiah'. A generous portion of a few kind of vege, shrimp, meat etc wrapped in kinda tortilla skin. The name? Dunno #1
The soup is a light kinda tomota soup with a hint of cabbage and dunno whatkinda spices. The name? Dunno #2
The mini-main course is a chuck of scallop (melts in your mouth) sitting onto a piece of baked baquette, garnished with some kinda dunno what...
The name? Dunno #4
The other mini-main course, is a piece of very tender beef with a slice of potato, sandwiched in between. Juicy, tender and very tasty indeed. The name? Dunno #5.
The dessert is bread puddingish kinda cake accompanied by chocolate ice cream at the side. A good Wrap up. teh name/ Dunno #6.
The chaser? One of the finest scottish single malt. We cleaned out 2 X 1/3 filled bottles...and had loadsa laughs while at it.
The Overall 4+hr experience?
-The ambiance is 4.5*
-The service is 5*
-The food is 5*
-The chef's company is 5*
-The price is very malu affordable...another 5*.
U gotta try this 'Surprise ala carte'.
Yang Banyak kenyang latotupai
p/s ... the other forumer (a gourmet himself) asked the Chef to open a similar but 'higher class' outlet (read as more expensive) in Mont Kiara /Solaris/Dmasara Hts and can make a killing there! That i believe is his testimonial/review of the food last nite...
