As they said - The money was a "headache," ...to many hawks and crooks were harassing them, so they felt it better off giving it to charity. They kept a small amount and seems they have saved quite a bit over their working lives.

It is the joy of giving which hardly anybody understand - as explained by the old couple. Dont need to entertained long lost cousins or sons or daughters who may come a calling after hearing about the sudden fortune to borrow money.
IMHO, it is not about dying, but leaving a legacy which they would be proud of. Moreover, they are too old to zoom around in the brand new Ferrari or Bugatti. Even they do not have the belief that they would be driving the paper Ferrarri or a grand funeral sent off of terrocotta drivers, bodyguards, and maids.
On the other hand, dont think they are going senile too because it makes perfect sense to give than to receive because they retained about 2 percent of the winning for rainy days especially she is undergoing chemotherapy.
For that I Tabik Spring to such a generosity act where it is not insane act to give to charity which they targetted to the needy like Red Cross, Salvation Army the local fire department, churches, cemeteries, hospitals in Truro and Halifax, where Violet underwent her cancer treatment, and organizations that fight cancer, Alzheimer's and diabetes.
