    I am Malaysian - 53 years old

    An interesting, yet thought provoking especially the ending sentence which says it is the rakyat that makes the nation and nit the other way around.
    I just wanna to add Mlaysia cant live on slogan 1Malaysia but rather it has to come from the heart to promote harmony. Instead even the teachers are spewing more rapping rubbishs than what was done by the Namewee rapper. Ironic, he is just a rapper whereas the those HMs are teachers - What the hell were they teaching after all these 53 years? http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/141495

    garbage bin receiving garbage, spewed out the garbage ;
    another bin receiving the same garbage, happily spewed same thing out ;
    every year sometimes in 7th month of lunar calendar, garbage containers and garbage are everywhere . . .
    things go round, round and round . . . . for another 53,
    the virus never found its cure.

    As we aged, we are suppose to be more mature ,understanding, and tolerant. But as in the case of Malaysian aging, we seems to be heading to United States of Malice since achieving Merderka.
    We have our leaders from Politicians and Teachers going around with the nonsense of dividing the nation instead of multiplying the sum of patriotism and harmony.

    VESTED INTERESTS, PURE ARROGANCE AND SELFISHNESS will continue to destroy this country. Those qualities are very much alive and it thrives like cancer. We'll continue to hear of people with these qualities time and again and I foresee there'll be nothing short of them in time to come. This land is doomed and nothing concrete is really done to curb this behavoir. I'm with the impression that PATRIOTISM actually runs thin and just another word in our vocabulary. I weep for Malaysia.

    Cool

    Yes...really sad. We have such a beautiful country and so much of good things..but they are slowly destroying everything!! And like I have said before, even a few years ago, I had already started to feel like we are living in rubbish dump. And my feelings havent changed, except the rubbish gets more stinking as the years go by. If my roots were not that strong, I would have taken Tupai's advice and just go buy a bungalow in north sawadee land and live happily ever after. Away from all this garbage! But I havent entirely removed the idea from my radar.

    Malaysia was still a nice place up to 1970, then the great flood came...THAT WAS IT!.. many (mis)events that followed changed this land and some mentality for the worse. Its NOT OR NEVER ABOUT having great infrastructure, fancy cities, fancy lights, designer labels and great VARIETY OF FOOD!...MOST OF ALL ..NOT PERSONAL WEALTH.

    You see... there's an hidden matter in your first sentence. Its that anyone must make it in life in terms of personal wealth to a very safe extent which is provide quite a lump of self confidence and allow oneself to dismiss or silently tolerate all the nonsense (however bad it may be) in this land. I dare to say that true patriotism lies secondary. People in this category will likely have more altenatives to bale out if there's need. Majority ain't that fortunate. Ok...nuff said.

    I remember that I used to wake up early on Merdeka day and watch the live parade from local TV stations.

    Now...nothing more than just a public holiday for me too.

    As I watch Bernama 's segment about the sensivity of internet consumption and morals lastnight ., I began to wonder what are were as malaysian needs to do. We have done everything ,from studying hard, working hard and taking care of our children to be groomed as good citizens and loyal malaysians.

    However,, have any of the ruling government officials realise that , while the Pm have constantly reminded us of tolerance and acceptance among all races in malaysia, we are being constantly being overdosed by one race and religion to the extend that we could not be bothered anymore.

    If you want to promote one religion, you must promote the others and that is respect of one and another. At least , now there is clip on vaanavil on temples around the country. We are not questioning any faith but the very cultures of the races that form Malaysia is unque and priceless.

    The problem is not with the younger generation and their intepretation of internet but the very good virtues that are being taught. Ban all seditous statements from media, ngos, or anybody and we should be okay.
