    Amsterdam...yeah!

Will be visiting Amsterdam in 3 weeks time for a few days. Any first hand tips about good hotels/lodging to book there, local tour companies, makan places and such to share with me? Would appreciatiate your feedback on this to make this trip a good one cos I have waited more than 20 yrs to realise this dream trip of mine.

Can't wait to go there! Madurodam is in my must see list...

    Thanking you in advance.

Thanks, Jan...guess that can't be missed cos it is smack in central from what I have gathered. Read so many reviews on trip advisor about the accomodation. At the moment, arranging a good place to stay is top on the list. Where did you stay when you were there?

Come on lah pakcik UncleLau...There are many other things to see in Amsterdam..like the Marken fish market where the land is below sea level and the woman there.... still wears traditional dresses. They serve very good fish and chips..An hour drive you will reach Anterwerp, old capital of Belgium...

Backed in the late seventies ,there were a 'big' influx of Ipoh and Penangnites travel there too seek job 'jump areoplane' and by early nineties most of them came back sharing the same stories of how vice and drugs were very rampant there. Talk to few as a matter of fact . Bad place indeed.

Of course this is 'one stick hit all' comments.

cheers or...slurppp.....(siping chinese oolong tea only somewhere in Penang now.)

P/S. Infact I have a young bright clerical staff in the finance dept .(many many years ago ) travel there to work in some part of chinatown and was later told by her close colleague ,she was alleged involves in the vice trade.
    what a pity .

Uma, do write a short story when you're back... I have never really 'toured' Amsterdam myself although I might have passed it, forgotten... didn't know there are so much more to see like what Jan Tomaswaki mentioned. Maybe I will pop by the next time I jalan jalan through Europe again. There are so many former iron curtain countries that friends told me MUST visit especially the city of Budapest... hmmm more places than time and money, macamana?

When I 1st put up this thread, I thought that I might get some good tips from you, Sentinel-since you are a seasoned traveller. I will try to write something of what I experienced when I come back.

It is like this. I first heard of the minature village in Madurodam, Hague when I was just newly married and living in the middle east. Holland had an exhibition there and I was attracted to the windmills, tulips and beautiful countryside and not forgetting the huge wheels of cheese! We were young and ideal time for travel but not much money so was put on hold. Then kids arrived, change again back to homeland, start again...etc n etc. Now, hubby on business trip to Germany so thought that I'll tag along and realise my dream trip of long ago along the way. Health is not getting any better, kids are old enough to take care of themselves, so why not.
