During the just recently ended school hols, I went back to my kampung for one day.

Thank God, a broadband centre had been put up right in front of my kampung house gate! I just had to have my 30 minutes of Internet Fix.

After that I felt all relaxed.

Maybe now, I'll balik kampung more often...

I thought so too, but now I see everyone carrying portable hard drives around, rather than (or in addition to) thumb drives.

Never thought I would need to have one of those portable hard drives meself - but then I bought a camcorder and now only have 7 GB left in my computer!~ Before the camcorder there was about 30 GB - and all we did was go to Malacca for CNY and Taiwan recently.

Actually harddisks are still cheaper ...
    • a 320GB 2.5inch external-HDD costs roughly RM190 which works out to approx 60sen per GByte
    • a 16GB thumbdrive costs about RM100 and that works out to RM6.25 per GByte

Per GByte, thumbdrives cost 10X more than the external HDD - which would you buy?

    Hi Franky,

In Singapore, there is this FREE wireless broadband service, Wireless@SG. It is a wireless broadband programme developed by the IDA (Infocomm Development Authority) of Singapore as part of the Next Generation National Infocomm Infrastructure initiative.

Users can enjoy this free wireless broadband service both in-door and outdoor with speeds up to 1 Mbps. For higher speed, there will be charges incur. The operators who provide this free service are SingTel, QMax and iCell. The network coverage is nationwide.

Users with access to the Internet can log onto any of the three operators’ websites and complete an online registration form. Alternatively, they can click on the ‘New User Sign Up’ link found on the Wireless@SG log-in page when they select the Wireless@SG network at the coverage areas.

The account will be activated immediately and password will sent to you via SMS. Visitors to Singapore can receive free 24 hour Wireless@SG accounts by calling a computer-operated phone number at SingTel.

For more information, following is the link
    http://www.ida.gov.sg/News%20and%20E...getPagetype=20

As a matter of fact, I do not subcribe data package with my mobile phone operator because Wireless@SG is good enough for me. Sometimes, I called my mum at USJ via Skype using my iPhone tapping this free wireless broadband service, it is much cheaper compare with STD call.

Amazing facts about the internet in Boleh-land:

    1. Streamyx feels more like longkangx.. connection speed does not justify the price!
    2. Connection cable to US and Europe on the seabed is forever under repair to justify slow connection speed!
    3. ISP offered high-speed connection but insecure line to customers - only in Malaysia?..
    4. ISP keeps harping that Malaysian internet is one of the cheapest in the world when we all know that it is actually otherwise
    5. Whilst neighboring countries has offered gigabit bandwidth to individual consumers at reasonable rates, we still remain in the Megabit world
