Hawker stall goes high-tech
A YOUNG customer is intrigued by Ms Catherine Han's high-tech otak sales console. The stall at a Hougang Street 21 hawker centre is one of five outlets owned by Lee Wee & Bro's Foodstuffs which have all been fitted with the point of sales modules.
The sets are able to record and track information on product sales and stock levels.
Managing partner Mark Lee said: 'We got the idea from fast-food restaurants. In the past, we used to have problems with the daily intakes, which did not always tally with the stocks we sold. Now it's easier to keep track.'
The touch screen has pictures of the different types of otak sold. Each system cost $3,200, but Mr Lee said it was a worthwhile investment.
'When we told the system supplier that we wanted to install it in our hawker centre stall, they were shocked and told us not to waste our money, but we insisted!'
