    Just checked with a friend of mine - he said to Melaka, is usually RM400/return (approx. 160km x 2). To Ipoh - he is not sure but he reckons it should be /would be around RM500/RM550/return.

    If you want his number - lemme know. Cheers

    Hmm.. early morning can do for some costing...
    (for car = 1,500 cc - private car)
    Suggested Route = Bkt Jalil + Kesas + North South Highway + Ipoh (plus some town travelling) = 600KM

    EXPENSES
    PETROL = 600KM x RM0.18/KM = RM108

    TOLL = PLUS HIGHWAY RM28 X 2 = RM56
    = KESAS RM2.20 X 4 = RM8.80
    = RM64.80

    MAINTENANCE = RM0.10 X 600KM =RM60

    TOTAL = RM232.80
    (only variable cost is taken into consideration. Depr/Road Tax/Insurance are excluded as the car used are for private non-business purpose)

    Assuming Fare Collected = RM550
    Excess = RM317.20
    Hours spend = 10 hours
    Labour Rate per hour = RM31.72 (not bad...McD is earning RM4/hr)

    -accident risk not included-traffic fine for F1 driver not included-dim sum/ipoh taugeh chicken not included-sun-block not included

    I know the previous posts are not taximen but Ravi had said he is.

    As you know, we do not allow for solicitation for business in the Forum and certainly no advertisements.

    This is my quandary ... please let me know if we shall allow Ravi to remain in the Forum? Please do not get me wrong ... I have nothing against cab-drivers who are members to the Forum. But however, if Ravi decided to join the Forum just because he saw this request thread, we see someone taking a business opportunity. This is purely for membership safety ... we do not know who Ravi is and if he is a real cab-driver. Furthermore would kmlim feel he can trust an unknown stranger coming into the public forum to offer taxi services?

    Let us be absolutely objective about it all ... shall we allow such things on the Forum? I could easily go by the book of rules which we have, and ban Ravi immediately because he is soliciting for business. But I want your opinion

    Hi Chang... u sure are in a quandary now eh.
    Well, in this really lousy economic times, we can't fault Ravi for wanting to get customers while making an honest living. At the same time, yeah, this forum does hv a no-soliciting of biz policy, but maybe you can ask Ravi if he intends to continue participating here without any solicitations or advertising. If there are no further posts from him other than services, then ban lor... If not, i think it would also be good feedback from kmlim if he has used Ravi's services and finds him reliable coz i sure as heck am always on the lookout for good taxi-drivers for friends, fml and myself or my kids. My usual cabbie has had a major stroke so he cant drive anymore. My other 2 are for certain areas only, and one other cabbie i know is an SUV type which costs more.

    If Ravi is a community member who happens to hv a taxi, so be it. If Ravi is NOT a contributing community member, then no use keeping around here.

    So Ravi... also up to u now.. you want to stick around or not?

    (my humble opinion only... )

    What is the difference between people whom we do not even know who advertise for sale or offer to buy items in our forum FLEA market section and Mr. Ravi who offer to accept KM Lim's offer here? I don't see Mr Ravi soliciting or advertising his taxi service business here so why put on this suspicion. We should give kmlim some advice whether the price is too good to be true or how to go about using Mr Ravi's service. Instead we start to doubt him just because he is a taxi man. The same people do to me just because I am a contractor. When are we going to start to think fair? I suggest we give Chang the banana!!

    Alan, I am going by the Rules on no adverts. It is not to discredit En.Ravi - as I had clearly stated in my earlier post... I had clearly stated my stand and my reasons for suspicion.

    For your information, I have denied all requests to put up offers of services like baby sitting, houses/rooms to rent.

    There is a reason to deny advertisements ... that is because as a responsible forum, we cannot allow for offers of services without any form of validation. I for one is unable to determine if any services offered are safe for our members. We know how people perceive recommendations made in a friendly environment. Readers may think that it is endorsed by the Forum and this is where the danger lies. If someone we do not know comes on to advertise a service, how does the Forum vet this service, especially if it is from a complete stranger?

    This is not the issue. I dare say even in the best of times, people do need to find opportunities. However, if you were to look at the situation in a broader perspective, how can you determine if anyone is what he claim to be? On the Forum, one post cannot validate any claims.

    Recommending a service from a regular member is another thing for example when we inform others about your services or the car-services by Mr Chia. We as regular members make the recommendation and if there are any complaints, it will come back to the recommender.

    If ravi79 did not post his reply here and chose to send a private message to kmlim to offer the service without telling anyone, we will not know.

    I understand keeping the balance is tough for moderators - protecting member's interest and yet at the same time, allowing freedom to post messages.

    But, AlanCheng definitely has his point.

    I remembered that when the site was set up 11 years ago in 1999, we had a Buy Sell subsites which allow people to list what they want to buy/sell products or services

    I could only find the Business Directory nowadays - http://www.usj.com.my/Business/directory.php3 but I am not sure whether the list is contributed by members or moderators.

    You are absolutely correct. This was how we put small ads on the side, out of the Forum. I wonder if you also remember that we got hacked at least twice in the past. Well, one of the hacks caused so much damage that our technical support member could not recover a few parts of our database and that included the buy&sell section. As it is that section no longer works - you can try to post an ad there but nothing will show.

    Oh, by the way, that ad section was filled with scams ... there were people offering typing services where the worker needed to submit a few hundred Ringgit as processing fee ... I heard that the jobs never came after paying. Hence my reluctance to allow for any more ads in the website because of these scammers.

    For everyone's information, our log book shows that Ravi had not come back to the Forum since 1st May ... goes to show how interested he really is regarding his offer.
