I'm interested to know if it is worth installing a large water filter immediately after the water mains. To exclude all the suspended particles in the piped water, I would go for a simple particle filter without the activated carbon element.
We are currently using a simple RM8 changeable filter and considering upgrading to one of those types with the backwash facility. I am skeptical of the backwash process since it is basically the same dirty piped water that does the washing, hence don't it deposit/trap the sediments within the filter?
Comments from current backwash filter users are welcomed. It would be good to also hear from people with academic/research references on the use of such devices.

I installed an Delco rocket type. It only cost me Rm1500 inclusive of copper piping from the main. I also managed to installed new copper piping from water filter to the water tank and down to the kitchen pipe costing Rm1200. Now very satisfied with the water. No more smell and dirt. When I do a backflow, you will be shock to see the mud and dirt.
