Beat inflation ( cheap but good food )

Forummers ,just wanted to state that we all know that the cost of living is escalating. .It's a high time we must inform everyone where to get cheap vegetables, fish meat etc(anywhere).....I think most retailers will jack up the price in this CNY especially haircut. My sister stay in SJ for the last 30 years still do her marketing in Pudu, because it's fresh and cheap.Wifey bought me a Arsenal jersey in Spain cost euro19 and even less 30% (RM63) where M'sia sell at RM250 Something is wrong here?

One way is to avoid Large sea prawns, promfet, ma yow and expensive stuff. These items usually does not last long and if everybody avoid , the traders have no choice but to slim their profits.

Carrefour and Giant prices vary depending on location. Only a selection of "cheaper" goods or provisions are clearly advertised on flyers or on site. Don't be MISLED by everything or most are cheap at XXX place!
I still find price of vege, fish or other misc wet provisions are cheaper and better quality at "dirty filthy" wet markets around Klang Valley.
Old town PJ wet market is like going to a market somewhere in India, so many foreign labor manning the stalls.
Want cheaper and best quality food.. COOK AT HOME!..

I think not much can be saved from food and the effort is too much compare to the savings.
A better way is to cut down eating-out especially dinner.

To withstand the impact of lower purchasing power due to inflation and weakening Ringgit,
    1. cut down holidays
    2. buy/replace big-ticket items last like plasma tv, car audio, house reno & deco.
    3. cut down those fix monthly expenses like internet, Astro,
    4. no maid

I am still using my 10 years old Toshiba 29” CRT tv.
I don’t have internet connection in my house.
I only subscribed to Telekom fix-line 3 years ago when we need to communicate with our kid.
Me and my wife will spend one day either Sat or Sun to clean the house.

Just my ways to foster closer ties with family member and at the same time have more quality time at home.

Don't say I'm some stingy poker.
    1. I eat rice meal ONCE a day, limit to 2 meals a day, thats it. Rice either at lunch OR at dinner.
    2. My budget for 2 persons at any meal if eating out is RM8. NO fancy places..REALLY NOT NECCESSARY NOR WORTH IT. I'm NOT going to pay RM10 for a stupid cup of coffee. Many times I have tosai and plain water for dinner at mamak.. Altogether for 2 pax.. RM4. OK..sometimes Teh-O.
    3. Drinks, air suam mostly or NONE...drink later on. NO fizzy drinks or sweet drinks (health sake)
    4. I changed my old 29" CTV to LCD because the old clunker eats electricity current for breakfast. I'm NOT going to make TNB rich for my stupidity.
    5. Should I find another reasonable broadband rate, I'M GONNA CUT THAT TM LAND LINE PHONE. I really DON'T NEED IT and ITS COSTING ME NOW unnecessary fees.
    6. I'm actually finding it cheaper and economical to buy a whole chicken, bake it in my own style and have it for DINNER for at least 2 days, than spending more MONEY eating out. Savings and better quality food..COOK HOME. Don't know how to cook isn't an excuse.. TONS of recipes on internet and practice makes perfect.
    7. NO NEED for any maid. Me and other half easily manage the household chores.
    8. I go Mydin and buy RM30+ trouser pants. Good quality and no-one gonna criticize me that I'm wearing el-cheapo pants or shirts.
    9. I drive my fuel efficient spartan Kancil around. Door unlock oso no-one take notice or steal. (errr.. please don't retort... I know when to lock and when I can take it easy).
    10. Park my car whole day at Merdeka Stadium car park, take monorail to Sungei Wang area.. can window shop THE WHOLE DAMN DAY!.. walking around is GOOD EXERCISE.

    BsLee,

CRT tv consumes more electricity, really..

If this is the case, I will change my 29" tv.

    Cheers

Most big TV sets consume at least 600 Watts and above.
Take a water kettle and clothes iron as reference. 2000 watts and 1000 watts respectively.
The picture tube requires high voltage and current drive for the heating element. There's no escape when it comes to any CRT tube or thermionic tube that requires heater element for operation. LCD TV's are more modern circuitry and microelectronics, therefore substantial decrease in current consumption. CTV is now old tech. Change lah.. for long term savings if you watch TV often. Of course bigger LCD is more consumption. I think those LED TV's are even better but the downside is the price of it.

I have my usual haircut just out of USJ at ONLY RM7! for YEARS!

NOT recommended to fussy flers and may like the other species as stylist.
My haircut is merely to be neat...thats it...no fancy styles.

USJ27 bro!.. THIS DAMN LAND WILL SEE PRICE INFLATION IN FUTURE AND PEOPLE JUST HAVE TO find ways to EARN MORE to keep up anyhow. C-O-L sure to rise here n there. The poorer get poorer..unfortunate fate for many. This land is over dependent on imports, even essential goods which appointed agencies have many fingers in the pie which keeps the price up. There's NO free market, so NO competition, how to encourage deflation?..
There's a ceiling price..so distributors STICK TO CEILING PRICE and never go down. Our nelayan go fishing in "sampans". The fishermen from up north go fishing in TRAWLERS and huge NETS. One scoop and they can sell back Malaysian fish to us.
How many times can mere mortal rakyat change lifestyle ah?..

I don’t have much time to watch tv, and I prefer to read.

I only watch news and sometimes tennis and F1. I don’t enjoy watching soccer and hence I spent little time in front of the tv screen.

I think the air-conditioners are the biggest culprits in electricity consumption in my house.

Will consider changing to LCD but problem is where to put the old tv….is really sinful to throw away usable item and I don’t like the idea of having another tv..

    Hope it kaput by itself

Air conditioners are already near state of the art and most economical as far as current technology allow. Incompetent installation can hotter operating evironment will incur more consumption cost, thats it. Hot room, more energy, cool room, less energy required. simple.
Move to CH, Fraser's or Genting...no need air con and high energy bill.

Sorry jan tomaswaki, I have deviated your thread with my previous posts.

I normally go to Herb n Food in SS15 for household goods replenishment.

The variety there serves my purpose and I think it is reasonably price.

There is another Herb n Food in Taipan, next to Watson.
