Low Yat Plaza to be known as "Plaza Electronic City" in 2004

KUALA LUMPUR Nov 8 - Low Yat Plaza in Jalan Bukit Bintang popular for its fashion and beauty care products will be known as "Plaza Electronic City" from 2004 selling all types of electronic and Information Technology (IT) products.

Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the move was to offer to the public all ranges of electronic and IT products under one roof.

"It is aimed at bringing the people closer to IT and its features will be similar to those found in Singapore, Japan and Korea," he told a media conference.

He said apart from participation by all traders, cooperation from holders of distribution rights was important to ensure the project was successful and the products sold were of quality and reasonably priced.

"With this Plaza Electronic City in place, consumers can buy both branded and non-branded goods. It will also attract tourists inclined to IT," he said.

Muhyiddin said the owner of Plaza Low Yat, Low Gee Teong, had agreed to expand the plaza and provide for even more trader participation.

"I understand that more than 300,000 square feet of space has been made available for the sale of electronic products and so far 48 percent of the space had been taken up," he said.

Plaza Low Yat will be replaceing Plaza Imbi as THE place for IT stuffs. Anyhow, Plaza Low Yat was try to position itself as the next Imbi Plaza since it starts its operation.

With the BB Park in front of Low Yat Plaza, sure the attractions are better than Imbi Plaza ...
